Leatherback sea turtles will occasionally create circles in the sand crawling up and down the beach. These beautiful "orientation circles" are fairly common on our very flat nourished beaches. #leatherbackturtle#edangeredspecies#timelapse#LoveFL
Our team satellite tagged another nesting leatherback last night! 🐢+🛰️=♥️ You can view her track at https://t.co/KJ5zG9drVX as soon as data arrive later this evening. #SeaTurtleWeek#leatherbackturtle#jupiterfl#lovefl
Here is an animation of DOT's travels since nesting in March. After laying 3 nests in March and April, DOT left FL and headed north. You can follow along with us at https://t.co/8heO5s8Tc7 and visualize her movements as she interacts with ocean currents. @LotekWireless@Windycom
Where do our leatherbacks travel to after nesting? Check out this animation of "Freckles" movements. She was tracked for 320 days and travelled about 14,600 miles! View her track at https://t.co/KJ5zG9drVX
Have you heard the great news?! After losing her signal, leatherback Hope came back to FL to nest & thanks to @LeatherbacksFLA has a new satellite transmitter so we can track her again-- a first! Read the amazing story https://t.co/EQ7nv2UQpc & track Hope https://t.co/FWlN4R7s2F
While #leatherback sea turtles are typically associated with deep water, Juniper the turtle tagged at #SanibelIsland has only spent 4 of the past 114 days in water deeper that 200 meters. She is currently just on the edge of the deeper waters near the Gulf Stream. #FtMyersSanibel
We are pretty excited to play with this new arrival. Looking forward to building and programming our own custom GPS/Argos tracker for endangered leatherback sea turtles! @arribada_i@Al2kA@ShuttleworthFdn@WoodsHoleGroup
Big news! Juniper, the Gulf Coast nesting leatherback has left the Gulf via the Florida Straits and is heading north in the Gulf Stream east of Florida. We believe that this is the 1st time a leatherback turtle has been tracked via this route around Florida! #BreakingNews
Look at Freckles go! Since we tagged her 41 days ago, she has traveled about 3,200 kilometres (2,000 miles) and is now off the coast of New Jersey. Freckles is currently the leader in the @conserveturtles annual Tour de Turtles race. Follow along at https://t.co/S0JbExspVV
Meet Hope! She was tagged by FLI and @conserveturtles
researchers in May as she nested on Jupiter Island. Hope is running in the Tour de Turtles to raise awareness about light pollution. You can read more here: https://t.co/3IdmjNRlS3 or follow her at https://t.co/nLvuPwwXZ3
Did you know we are tracking Juniper - a leatherback that was tagged at Sanibel Island on the west coast of Florida? Juniper is the 1st #leatherback ever tracked from Florida's gulf coast. Read more about her here: https://t.co/DKNcAhF7dt #SeaTurtleWeek @windyforecast @SCCF_SWFL
Check out Hope! She is really flying up there. Hope is participating in the @conserveturtles annual Tour de Turtles this season. Check her out here: https://t.co/u4QEmpTqYM
Check out this animation of one of our turtles dive behavior between nests. After she left the nesting beach and moved offshore she made a few deep dives. During the deepest dive, she dove down to 118 meters. The water temp. at depth was 9° C. #seaturtleweek#DataVisualization
On #WorldOceanDay we are celebrating the #leatherback sea turtle! Here in Florida our season is beginning to wind down, but our volunteers found 3 nesting leatherbacks last night. Since March, we have encountered leatherbacks more that 300 times!

Isla has returned!
After almost two years and traveling more than 16,000 kilometers (10,000 miles) Isla, an endangered leatherback sea turtle with a transmitter was once again encountered by our team on her nesting beach at Jupiter Island, Florida.

Last night we tracked Ainsley as she meandered off the coast of Florida. At around 3:45 am she attempted to nest and we were waiting for her! Unfortunately the surf was too high, and the beach too narrow and she quickly abandoned her attempt. Will she be back tonight? Stay tuned!
We are tracking 3 leatherback #seaturtles, and the first turtle has now laid a 2nd nest on the Hutchinson Island section of our study area. This animation details 12 days of movements by the three turtles. You can view their data at https://t.co/KJ5zG9drVX #animalmovement
