@Anonymous756838@KJovian And just to be clear, I'm not against the meaning of the boycott. It just feels like the priority list is comprised of brands that most are willing to sacrifice without little hesitation and not necessarily brands that will do the most damage.
@Anonymous756838@KJovian 2. Microsoft is on the pressure list. Xbox is the brand they chose to boycott. I'm not sure what going after the third place console is going to accomplish, particularly one that they have considered selling. If anything MS would love to reinvest that money in Azure and AI.
@ComradeGrimm@Lorask6 It's more people questioning the list.
What is targeting the third place console and arguably one of their weakest divisions is supposed to accomplish? It would have been far more effective to go after Windows gaming as a platform. Start by making it Linux/Mac OS exclusive.
@zero_the_clown@house_house_ For those who are saying, "Microsoft doesn't make a cent from Steam" - correct. However, they do make money from the data they are collecting from most Windows users.
If @house_house truly wanted to pressure Microsoft, make it Linux/Mac OS exclusive on Steam.
@stvisonfire@GawrGuraIsHot I agree to an extent. However, for gaming it's as simple as unchecking Windows when submitting your game on Steam. Both Linux and Mac OS are alternatives if people want to play the game on PC.
Of course, they would never do that because of the massive hit on sales.
@onlinenick2000@DemocracyDiver@NekoHappix They make money from the data they collect. There is a reason why they continue to allow you to use Windows without activation.
@_Sideswipe911 If they truly want to bring eyes to the boycott, then remove Windows support and make it Steam OS/Linux/Mac only. Steam gives you they option to set which platforms your game supports so it's feasible.
But let's be real, that would hit their bottom line too hard.
@t_vann48@WhiskeyBougard Targeting the third place console isn't going to do much. While it may be unrealistic to boycott all of Windows, for gaming Linux/Steam OS and Mac exist.
In Steam, you can choose which platforms your game supports. They could have easily made it Mac/Linux only.
@Anonymous756838@KJovian If the entire point is to punish Xbox users to bring notice to the boycott, it would make far more sense to punish the much larger install base of Windows users.
BTW the publisher can set the supported platforms on Steam. Of course, they wouldn't want to crater their sales.
@Sonnie_Slim It's not just Disney btw. Sony/Nintendo are actively working on the Legend of Zelda film with the production company owned by Avi Arad, a man who has publicly shown strong pro-Israel views and defended their government. Of all the film productions to work with, why work with his?
@Sonnie_Slim I'm not reaching, I'm simply asking why we can't ask these corporations to do better? If we are asking people to boycott Disney (which I think is fair), why are we allowing corporations a free pass for doing business with those on the list, especially when alternatives exist?
@shrike0ftorns@LunarniTears You would have to ask the people who added Disney to the boycott list. Just pointing out that while Sony may not be on the priority list, they are certainly funneling cash into a company who is. Every sale of a Sony produced Marvel game/console goes into Disney's pocket.
@shrike0ftorns@LunarniTears And just to be clear, I'm not saying people shouldn't boycott. However, boycotting a product or service you never intended on buying or using in the first place isn't a boycott.
@shrike0ftorns@LunarniTears You then have to consider other aspects. Like how Sony has an active partnership with Disney/Marvel for Spider-Man, Wolverine and rumored X-Men. Both Sony and Nintendo are actively producing The Legend of Zelda with very public and pro-Israeli Ari Arad's production company.
@Shpeshal_Nick Funny thing is both Sony and Nintendo have no issues working and producing films with staunch Israel supporter Avi Arad for such films as Uncharted and a little title called The Legend of Zelda.
Why are they not boycotting both companies until they cease collaboration with him?
@TheCapitalMnS@Shpeshal_Nick It's not whether or not Microsoft gets a cut. If they truly want to stand on business, they could block access on Windows and only support Linux/Mac via Steam.
Of course, that would absolutely crater whatever sales they would receive, so they won't do that.
