Time for South Africa to resume diplomatic ties with Israel

The time has come for South Africa to show it wants to help with sincerity achieve lasting peace in the Middle East and this can only be done by normalising diplomatic relations between South Africa and Israel.

In light of the fact that there has been a peace deal signed with a ceasefire, the release of prisoners of war and kidnappers and plans to rebuild Gaza, South Africa must play its full role to be involved in the process. This is a unique opportunity to do it.
.
An essential starting point for this for South Africa is to normalise its relations with Israel through an embassy that can represent South Africa.

The absence of an ambassador since the withdrawal in 2023 shows a total lack of diplomatic commitment to helping resolve the conflict.
.
America strongly criticized the South African government last year over, among other things, the country's decision to declare Israel to the International Criminal Court for genocide in Gaza.
.
The resumption of diplomatic ties by South Africa will send a very positive signal to the USA at this critical stage in which discussions are taking place to normalise trade relations between the countries.

The VF Plus therefore also welcomes the South African government’s response to the announcement of a peace plan between Israel and Hamas, which reportedly paves the way for the creation of lasting peace.
