sana next time, mr presiding officer would also remind the senator judges that regardless of professional & legal background they all stand on equal footing in the impeachment court. ‘til now kuha parin ni pia pika ko sa “i dont want to see this happen again” as if she’s the highest authority there and that her being a lawyer is somewhat an edge over the other senator-judges.

The Chinese government has long resorted to pseudo-science and pseudo-history to justify its pseudo-claim to the West Philippine Sea. Maliban sa basag na basag na internationally ang propaganda nila, dumadami na ang kumokondena sa pangha-harass nila sa Pilipinas.

China should wake up to reality and respect our sovereignty.

WHO IS ATTY. VIRGIL LIGUTAN BEFORE THIS WEEK?

Atty. Virgil Ligutan was a pro bono human rights lawyer before being thrust into the national spotlight this week.

He helped free Bambi Beltran: an award-winning artist, writer, and recipient of the 2020 Deutsche Welle (DW) Freedom of Speech award.

She was arrested on April 19, 2020 without a warrant and was detained for 60 hours because her satirical FB post about the COVID-19 situation in Sitio Zapatera had enraged the late Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella.

Her second arrest came on August 12, 2020, on a cyber-libel case filed by an April Dequito.

The third arrest was on May 26, 2023 when police from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Cebu Provincial Field Unit (CIDG-PFU) appeared at Beltran’s doorstep around 4 pm.

Ligutan took on the case and made sure that Bambi would get the best legal aid she could. The case has since been dismissed.

And now, he’s a pro bono private prosecutor for the House of Representatives still fighting for human rights and accountability in the impeachment trial of BP Sara Duterte.

@GordianKnotRay of @SeaLightFound EXPOSES China's recent "pretext to escalation" by publically staking CLAIM to the Batanes Islands in the northernest tip of the Philippines as part of their territory, with the communists of Beijing convening a bunch of fake scholars to justify why they own islands that for centuries was long regarded as part of the Philippines. He was speaking just a short time ago at the National West Philippine Sea Summit in Manila.

This is disgusting provocation by Beijing. Filipinos must condemn this and talk about it more with righteous fury.

Just my two cents on what's happening after the first week of the trial.

In an ordinary court trial, some of Sen. Risa’s questions may not be allowed before the case is concluded. But this is an impeachment trial—a constitutional process involving a public official entrusted with the votes of around 32 million Filipinos (sabi nga ng defense diba hahaha)

So why was she seemingly the ONLY senator-judge asking the questions that many ordinary Filipinos are asking? Those are the questions people deserve answers to.

Watch the impeachment trial of Former Chief Justice Renato Corona. The senator-judges were far more active in questioning. Miriam Defensor Santiago, especially, did not hold back.

Now, the Cayetano siblings—both lawyers who often remind everyone to stand with the Filipino people—sometimes sound more like defense counsel than impartial senator-judges. Tell me if you still believe this so called senators.

Whether you agree or not is your call. But it’s also fair for Filipinos to ask if that’s the role they expect from senator-judges.
