Update: Emergency Management says 80 people are being evacuated/rescued from Candlewood Suites Hotel on River Road. Water has risen at least six inches in 30 minutes. National Guard will take them out in trucks- boats used if necessary. @wave3news#flooding#Louisville
Due to heavy rainfall, MSD’s sanitary sewer system has reached its capacity, and we need your help. To prevent further complications, we are asking folks to refrain from using large amounts of water that flow into the system—please delay using your washing machine or dishwasher.
Furman still without power, closes through Friday
Duke Energy has advised us that their crews cannot begin to restore electricity to campus until Wednesday, at the earliest. Their schedule is unpredictable, as they said in an email to customers, because of the “catastrophic damage … particularly in Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina.” There has “never been a storm like this in our company’s history,” with extensive damage to transmission lines and substations. Greenville County Emergency Management reported that as of Sunday night, 75% of the county, including most of our faculty and staff, was still without power, and hundreds of roads are still blocked by trees.
🚨#BREAKING: The city of Asheville has announced that nearly 100,000 residents may be without access to water for weeks
📌#Asheville | #NorthCarolina
The city of Asheville has announced that nearly 100,000 residents may be without access to water for weeks following the tragic and catastrophic floods caused by the remnants of Hurricane Helene. The devastation has already claimed over 103 lives, and more than 1,073 people are still missing. Storm chaser @ChrisHallWx along with @nicksortor are on the scene providing assistance to those affected, including distributing supplies, offering warm meals, and utilizing Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite to help restore communication in the impacted areas

We cannot say this enough: DO NOT TRAVEL IN OR TO WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA.
Travel in this area for non-emergency purposes is hindering needed emergency response.
Details on the restricted travel area ➡️ https://t.co/AGDVnBcZMS.
The lack of National MSM coverage of the devastation is Western NC makes me wonder what else we’re not learning about. The irony is that it is SO bad it’s not being covered bc it’s TOO bad to get to - and the victims don’t have cell reception to tell their stories. I get that they don’t want to use (buy) other people’s (unverified) pictures, but they could still cover this catastrophe. Thankful for the local media on the ground. This reinforces my belief that local journalists should always be who we look to first for authentic and accurate reporting.
Well. This explains why #asheville and other counties emergency management were saying they can’t get boats through. Look at the first clip. I’m not even sure if swift water rescue could help with this without the use of helicopters
🚨 ALERT: Asheville, NC is a TOTAL blackout zone, so we’ve set up TWO Starlink Stations for Public Use
Even NC State Police aren’t able to connect to cellular networks, so they’re using our Starlinks now.

@ChrisHallWx and I have had these up and running for an hour, and I lost count of the amount of people that’ve told us they’ve FINALLY been able to connect with friends and family and let them know they’re okay 🙂
I’m sure this post will have someone run up my data bill just to troll me, but so be it.
We’ve connected Asheville back to the world! 🙌🏻
Absolutely heartbroken for everyone impacted by Hurricane Helene. Especially my folks in Western North Carolina. Me and my team have been making some calls and I think we’ve got something really special lined up to help the Carolinas as much as we can. More details to come ASAP.
seeing @coreysmithmusic tonight
the last time I saw him (in 2006 😳) I was wishing I was 21 and now I’m wishing for the same thing in the other direction 😅
off to a rough start already with @JCPSKY sending out “new” school supplies lists after we already purchased ours, so now we have $25-40 worth of items we don’t need, but still have to go get new things that weren’t on the original list 😑😵💫
