@Jpullen19 Uncanny is EXACTLY the word for it. Much like the robots from the origins of the uncanny valley theory, the “closer” the “art” gets to “human” the more we’re going to be unsettled by it. At least some of us will always know it’ll never be more than PLAYING at humanity.

@profdgd I found myself stunned by how much he brought up his “middle class roots” during the debate. It felt like pleading to rejoin an “in-crowd” for clout. Real low-income folks know better. I learned growing up to not talk about it and to mind my own business. JD Vance is not like us.

Read the novella “A Short Stay in Hell” by Steven L. Peck today. The philosophy nerd in me geeks at the implications, while the mortal being in me balks at the nauseating idea of “eternity.” First thing I’ve read in a bit that’s affected me this much. Just… wow.
