Some reasons ICE regularly takes people to Louisiana: has staging facilities for quick deportations, more opaque to advocates/oversight, generally the south has more detention centers, worse outcomes in immigration courts immigrant, 5th circuit favorable to trump agenda.

This is why they sent #MahmoudKhalil to Louisiana. They don't have grounds to revoke his green card so they shop for hanging judges and send him to a state with one of the highest incarceration rates in the nation.
His lawyers are still fighting for him and we should too.

As of 8:45 p.m., a full 24 hours after he was arrested by ICE inside his university-owned apartment, Khalil's attorney still does not know where he is being detained. Columbia has not yet commented on the arrest.
