The ignorance shown by some people about the impact of child abuse on the trajectory of a child’s life and how it affects adulthood is depressing. Imagine what it would do to you/your children to have a devastating trauma as a child which you struggled to scrub from your brain.

One thing I wished they'd talked about during my training as a therapist is how to sit with feelings of helplessness during and after sessions. I wish this feeling, and the reality of not being able to help in a way a client truly needs, was normalized more.
You bet kids who grew up abused, neglected, or bullied might have been particularly into books & stories of other times & places-- thinking about worlds & characters that were definitively removed from what we were experiencing in real life was a psychological SURVIVAL strategy.
