You are putting your own personal interpretation of what Christianity is above what the Bible plainly teaches. Yet another counter-example to sola scriptura. Nothing more to say on the matter.

There has been confession since the time of the Apostles, as stated in James 5. And, again, getting back to the main topic, that is how the Apostles forgave sins with the authority granted them in John 20.

These verses go together: who forgives the sins, and how to attain that forgiveness. Elders are mentioned frequently throughout the NT, especially Acts, where in 14:23 they are appointed. They're not just old praying men.

Also, you're implying a contradiction between James 5 and John 20. There is none; they work together. The Apostles and their successors are the elders.

@ChristySimm23 @Emma506131772 God uses whatever means he wishes to forgive sins. Evidently, this includes the Apostles, as He plainly said, "If *you* forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven." It stands to reason that their successors could do the same. Also, read James 5.
