Families, lawyers and support staff weren’t able to be contacted by young ppl, often meaning they served longer times locked up and with minimal emotional support from family and other trusted people in their circle (6)

This is barbaric for anyone, but especially concerning for young people with developing brains, whom themselves are often fleeing dangerous homes & situations.
Equally concerning, on some occasions watch house phones didn’t work and this meant (5)

That’s 20 days in a watch house, not a detention centre (and there is a difference) - that’s no fresh air, limited natural sunlight and no grass under their feet. Often lights weren’t turned off at night, preventing a good nights rest (if that’s even possible in these cages) (4)

It’s as though the powers that be, knew how bad the situation was and didn’t want any outside eyes on it.
In many instances, young ppl were denied basic human rights and were locked in cages for upwards of 20 days (3)
