49 years ago today, Martin Luther King’s mother, Alberta King, was assassinated while in church. 6 years after her son was gunned down in Memphis.

Alfred Daniel King, brother to MLK, mysteriously died in a swimming pool, 15 months after his brother’s assassination.

Some good news. A young humpback whale got entangled yesterday off Port Kembla. Thanks to the NPWS team they successfully freed the whale assisted by a local fisherman, ORRCA and Marine Rescue.
A fantastic result and relief for all in the fading light as the whale swam free.

Today is the 31st anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander flag, designed by Bernard Namok.

The green panels represent the land, the blue represents the sea and the black lines represent the people. The centre of the flag also features a white dhari, a dancer’s headdress.
