British golfer and Ryder Cup player Maurice Bembridge passed away this week.
The story of him and his final round at the 1974 Masters is worth five minutes of your time today 🧵👇
Andy Gardiner has to thinking to himself, “What the hell did I do wrong?”
He came up with the idea for the Premier Golf League (PGL), which is essentially the same thing as LIV Golf. He was the person that really first pushed the idea of teams and saw the vision of creating billions ($10 billion in his case) of dollars in value.
Gardiner’s plan was to have eighteen, 54-hole tournaments with 48 players. Players were going to share in the ownership of PGL. Everything now we slowly see coming to fruition was his idea.
The Saudis and American backers were at the table. But, for some reason, the Saudis pulled out as well as other backers (eventually.)
Interestingly, Colin Neville, the guy that Tiger has brought in to watch out for the players in the current negotiations, was a big supporter and involved in PGL.
Gardiner keeps coming to mind as I see his vision unfold and I keep thinking to myself that he must be shaking his head. I wonder what strategic moves left him vulnerable and who he must have turned off and why?
In the epic changes coming to golf, there will be winners and losers, but this guy must have a special category of a combination of both wins (the idea) and losses (no money.)
In business, be careful and game it all out.
I’ll be the first to admit, I really don’t like sharing to much insight into what our training is like. But, my boy Aiden has been putting in the work.
I do like building golf swings. We have worked a bunch lately on his golf swing. Look back a few posts to see his swing. Pretty solid for sure! With kids though, I prefer to build a dynamic athlete first. That’s what he and I have spent more time on.
With this tennis/golf concept, we work on a variety of different swing sequencing. We even through in a variety of step drills too. Same goes for using arms independently. We just didn’t do it here.
He really loves the use of the @chiliwackergolf for goal posts. We do this till he makes a preset number of field goals. This way he keeps track and understands that he is in control to the amount of reps taken to complete the exercise.
The @teeclaw is another tool we are using here. Stance and target line along with ball position is what these lines are helping him with. This makes him accountable and aware of set-up or else I won’t drop/throw ball.
