"BTS not hungry anymore" "festivals when" "only tour and brand deals now"
As if they've not been VERY clear with tour being their first priority after 4 fcking years since discharge, if they want and have time they'll do a gig…if you've failed to keep up dont blame them 🤷
An issue with that Grammy Asian category is that they’ll just nominate K-pop artists instead of artists from the rest of Asia who make great music. They created this category to keep BTS winning against western acts rather than actually recognizing music.
"We heard Asian people say this category was othering and xenophobic. But because some record executives really, reaaaally want their k-pop artists to win a Grammy before BTS, we decided not to listen to them <3"
Macklemore announces a ‘Free Palestine’ tour, with additional artists set to join the lineup to be announced soon.
All proceeds from the tour will benefit organizations supporting Palestinians.
There’s a really good explanation about BTS/ IHEART on Threads from someone on the industry side. I think it explains the short set, contracts etc. really well.
.@BTS_twt have broken attendance and/or revenue records in at least 12 STADIUMS worldwide with the ARIRANG World Tour so far. 👑
— Not even half of the tour has gone by yet. More dates for 2027 to be announced.

Every artist, whether BTS or Bad Bunny, deserves access to the largest market without being filtered out or qualified. The solution isn't about getting rid of special markets or categories. Folk, for example, is a real thing, and if it benefits folk to have discrete awards and institutions, great. It's pop that needs to be examined, because pop is the biggest market and yet admission to it still seems largely subjective.
Artists and their managers should scrutinize record companies for the way they exclude artists from their pop departments. Labels and artists should challenge playlisters at streaming services and radio station programmers about how they wield the term "pop" for some but not for others. The Recording Academy should stop inventing new award categories, especially ones based on ethnicity, nationality or language, when people aren't asking for them every division separates its occupants from the larger, more profitable market. And if those Pop Performance awards or pop playlists cannot be defined musically or aesthetically, perhaps they shouldn't exist.

the grammy community defending themselves with "they can always apply for other categories" tells you EVERYTHING
bts has always applied for 3-4 categories (main ones) and they always gave them a nom in group/duo only to give the award to a COLLAB
Other artists boycotted the Grammys as a response to not receiving nominations or wins for a specific release.
BTS made this decision to send a message against xenophobia, knowing they had a guaranteed WIN.
Harvey Mason Jr.’s response is a masterclass in corporate gaslighting that completely ignores how the Recording Academy actually operates.
While the "separate but equal" defense sounds perfectly reasonable on paper, anyone who closely follows the music industry knows that sub-categories are routinely used as containment zones for diverse artists. The Grammys have a long, documented history of using genre and regional brackets to keep non-Western, non-white, and non-English-speaking acts away from the Big Four main stages.
The Structural Flaws in the CEO's Argument
The Vote-Splitting Reality: Mason claims genre categories do not exclude artists from the General Field (Album, Record, and Song of the Year). However, in practice, the 15,000 Grammy voters use these niche categories as a convenient box to check. Once an artist is tucked safely away in a regional or genre slot, voters rarely feel compelled to reward them in the top-tier categories.
The "Urban" Parallel: We have seen this exact playbook before. For years, Black artists were systematically funneled into the "Urban Contemporary" or R&B categories while being locked out of Album of the Year. The Academy renamed the category after intense backlash, but the structural habit of keeping diverse, chart-topping music out of the main spotlight remains identical.
Clout Chasing vs. Artistic Respect: The Academy's sadness over BTS’s withdrawal is deeply financial. The Grammys desperately need the massive social media impressions, live viewership, and cultural relevance that global acts bring to a dying linear television broadcast. They want the traffic, but they refuse to evolve their voting pool to genuinely evaluate global music on equal footing.
The Language and Geography Barrier: Music is a universal medium. By drawing a geographic boundary around pop music coming out of Asia, the Academy is fundamentally stating that Western pop is the "default" and everything else is a foreign anomaly requiring a special, segregated spotlight.
BTS's decision to withhold their submissions is a monumental power move. They are exposing the fact that the industry's most prestigious institution relies on outdated, Western-centric biases, proving that true global impact no longer requires a stamp of approval from a stagnant committee.
why r we acting like this whole “regional” category thing doesn’t only apply to artists that sing in a foreign language/dialect? cuz canadian n british artists have no issues winning the AMERICAN grammys (since yall wanna put so much emphasis on that)
Bts’in yaptığı atılım ile bu sanatçıların yaptığı boykot kesinlikle kıyaslanamaz.Diğer isimler adaylık alamadı diye öfkeden boykot ederken BTS kendileri sayesinde açılmış kategoride adaylığı kesin iken müziği ayrıştıran bu sisteme karşı herkes adına doğrudan başkaldırıp reddetti
I think it speaks volumes that Bangtan showed up and was grateful for 100% fan-voted American Music Awards even tho they were tired, but are boycotting an award show notorious for its bias, unfounded superiority, and blatant non-inclusivity.
u all r saying which groups u wouldn’t mind taking the award but sorry i won’t be happy for any of them. even the ones i do like and listen to. the audacity to submit to a category CREATED to discriminate against you bc the industry was intimidated by your peer is pathetic
