A few days remain until the worst year in history comes to an end. It was a year full of blood, killing, and loss. In it, we aged by decades. We lost the most precious things to our hearts: we lost our loved ones and friends, our homes, dreams, and aspirations. We lost the kind, warm words that used to envelop us in love and tenderness.

It was a year filled with cold, a year filled with limbs, skulls, and bodies lying in the streets.
A year filled with tears, amputated legs and arms.
A year in which thousands of souls ascended to the heavens.
A year that left us with nothing but longing and memories.

The world will welcome the new year with joy, and the skies will be lit with fireworks, while Israel will fill our skies with warplanes carrying tons of explosives and missiles.

The world will celebrate the new year with happiness and delight, while our mothers will sit waiting for their missing sons, another will cry at her son’s grave, one will yearn for her amputated hand, and another will not even exist because Israel decided so.

As you celebrate and enjoy New Year’s Eve, remember that there is a people dying every minute. Remember that at any moment, a missile could snatch me from my mother’s embrace.
