Israel and Ethiopia Celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Enkutatash Together!🇮🇱��🇹🌻💐

The Embassy of Israel in Ethiopia hosted a special celebration at the Embassy in Addis Ababa, bringing together Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and Enkutatash, the Ethiopian New Year.

This year, the two New Year celebrations coincided on the same day, creating a particularly meaningful occasion to celebrate the longstanding friendship and unique relationship between Israel and Ethiopia.

The event brought together Ambassador Dewano Kedir, Director General for Middle East, Asia and Pacific Affairs at the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and his team, along with religious leaders, Israeli friends, members of the Jewish community, Shalom Club members, influencers, civil society representatives, media leaders, and other invited guests.

Ambassador of Israel to Ethiopia Dr. Avraham Neguise highlighted the special significance of this year, as the two New Year celebrations coincide while Israel and Ethiopia mark 70 years of modern diplomatic relations.

“Israel and Ethiopia are countries that share history and connections going back 3,000 years, while our modern relationship continues to open new possibilities,” Ambassador Avraham said, describing the relationship as “old in memory and young in possibility.”

Speaking at the celebration, Ambassador Dewano Kedir described the coincidence of Rosh Hashanah and Enkutatash as a special and remarkable occasion, noting that it reflects the unique relationship between Israel and Ethiopia and the deep connections between the two peoples over many years.

The celebration brought together traditions, friendship, and shared hopes for the New Year, highlighting the enduring people-to-people bonds between Israel and Ethiopia.

As the two countries celebrate 70 years of modern relations, the occasion offered a meaningful reminder of a relationship rooted in a shared history while looking toward an even stronger future!

May the New Year bring peace, prosperity, health, and renewed friendship to the peoples of Israel and Ethiopia.

The attacks on Ethiopia’s Orthodox churches in Oromia recently and sadly ongoing for years are shocking, and officials should be doing more to stop it. It is specific targeting of these Orthodox communities.

But it’s not clear to me that “Islamists” are doing this, but rather extremist Oromo nationalists. Maybe some might be Islamists as well, but this seems timed more for national destabilization because of elections and to inflame tensions.
