Few things are a bigger performance multiplier than sleep.
Great opportunity to enhance athletic performance, even for elite athletes.
Really interesting data from Ohio State athletes found, among other things:
1. Average sleep time ~7hr/night (most data indicate that should be closer to 9hr/night for maximal athletic performance)
2. 8 of their sports teams AVERAGE <7 hr/night as a group.
More education. More monitoring. More feedback. More realistic schedules.
Imagine what we would see!
Curt Cignetti has a fascinating philosophy...don't waste anyone's time, coaches not expected to work nights just get work done, limited practice to keep players healthy
An honest and transparent Pascal Siakam after the Pacers fall to 6-24:
“When we decide that losing is not ok, we’re gonna go somewhere. But if we go out there every single day and it just feels like, okay, we lost another game, it does not matter, we’re just gonna keep sinking.
I don’t think we’re gonna get out of it, until when you lose and you go home and it really hurts you. Like if it doesn’t matter, we’re just gonna keep coming in here and do the same thing and lose every night and it’s gonna be it is what it is.
Like, who cares? We just lost another game, it doesn’t matter. I don’t like that feeling. And if we don’t decide to change that, it’s not gonna change. We have to make it happen.
Nobody is going to feel sorry for us. We can’t blame the schedule. The day that we decide that we’re tired of it, I think we’re gonna go somewhere.”
A massive new study on peak performance included 34,000 international top performers: Nobel laureates, renowned classical music composers, Olympic champs, and the world’s best chess players. It shows early specialization is a trap, and the road to greatness is long and varied.
In a study that followed both elite and non-elite swimmers, researchers found that each group felt the same level of nerves before a race.
The difference?
Elites interpreted their nerves as readiness—their nervous systems getting into gear.
Non-elites interpreted the exact same sensations as fear.
Instead of thinking:
“I feel off, something is wrong”
Try thinking:
-“This is my nervous system rising to the occasion.”
-“I am feeling this way because I care about what I am doing.”
-“Once I get started, my training will take over and I’ll be fine.”

Farmers don't dig up their seeds to see if they are growing. They keep doing the work, trusting the process, preparing for the harvest.
Growth takes time. Results take time. Be patient, be persistent, do the work, focus on your habits, be ready for the harvest.

Resilience is not the ability to bounce back from hard times.
Resilience is about being able to put your foot in the ground and bounce FORWARD to thrive in new conditions.
What are you doing today to bounce forward?
