There are a lot of smart people (particularly on the right) who thought that abortion had already sorted through politics. They think that other issues will be more important. You will hear a hundred reasons this won't blunt expected Republican gains. I have some thoughts: thread
Alternatively, if you run in a R*35 district, should you expect the county chair to support the Republican candidate and lie about you at the state convention? Asking for a friend. #mtpol
I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination.
Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.
Focus on building the party you actually support.
Political parties aren’t perfect, but they’re built by millions of people who knock doors, make calls, organize meetings, and fight for the values they believe in. If you don’t believe in the party, then don’t ask its members to carry you across the finish line.
The Democratic Party is broken in Montana.
We have County Committees working for Republicans
We have unelected former leaders trying to rig the system to benefit a candidate who didn’t have the stones to run in the primary and has never stood for office before,
backed by out of
Three days before the primary for U.S. Senate, as I was walking in the Senior Center in rural Jordan, Montana for lunch, the Chair of the Montana Democratic Party called me from Missoula to tell me IF I won, I would get zero help from them.
I was the front runner. I’d been on the ground nearly two years and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars from thousands of small donors by being proud Dems and working our asses off listening to the people.
I didn’t win because Dems in leadership are working behind the scenes to undermine Dems who go right to the people, listen and try to help, not just make millions, pay off political operatives, and lose.
The “Dems” called in a lone tech billionaire to coordinate with party insiders and spend millions of dark money in the last weeks of the primary election to advance a “Dem” who just moved here and who doesn’t even know we have an ag industry in our state.
This was all to make sure their chosen candidate, “Independent” Seth Bodnar could more easily advance after the primary. They’ll deny this but follow the money.
If you hate Democrats, don’t run to be leaders of their party, and don’t move here six months ago and treat hard-working Dems and their gains on the ground as throwaway in exchange for millions in dark money.
FFS if it happens beyond your control? Denounce it broadly.
Democratic leadership in Montana just undermined years of work with voters in the general because Tester, Baucus, and Racicot believed it would benefit their boy Bodnar to knock me out of the race.
It takes two years to win a general election here, building trust money can’t buy. Ask me how I know.
If you hate Democrats, don’t run as or assist an Independent who infiltrates Dem leadership to undermine actual hard-working Dems.
Two years of work listening to Montanans and elevating the best of our values washed away with Dem insider gossip and millions of dollars in propaganda so the candidate of the people did not advance.
Montana Dem voters are now at each other’s throats over a split vote against Republicans. And we will 100% lose this seat.
Jon Tester hates Dems. Max Baucus hates Dems. Billionaire Jason Carroll, a man who’s never spent a day in Montana, hates Montana Dems.
If you hate Dems in party leadership but want to stand up for the people, this system is so corrupt and powered by the darkest money, you may never get the chance.
But don’t give up.
Run in spite of the party leadership. When you’re dedicated to the people, the people always win.
If their fantasy politics assumptions are that Bodnar, with all his baggage, will consolidate the Dem. vote, they should move it to solid R now. There is no chance of Bodnar consolidating Democratic vote.
NEW — Democratic Senate nominee Alani Bankhead says she will not drop out or endorse independent Seth Bodnar in Montana's Senate race.
VoteHub currently assumes Bankhead will still withdraw by the August 10 deadline. If she remains in the race, Montana would move to Solid R.
@lemmiwinkster@MTDems@MTGOP So we’re clear, and I’m breaking a long time x hiatus, which I’ll be reimposing, I am running a full tilt race against Rep. Bedey, with or without the county party. I intend to win. I also did not release these dms.
My take on the Selzer poll:
1. You can't talk about how accurate Selzer is, and how critical this poll will be before it is released, then hedge when it comes out with a result you didn't expect. This poll is almost certainly accurate, and...1/
@DukeLaxBro81 I was wrong this time. Because I gave the electorate more credit than they deserved. They’ll truly deserve the mess that Trump gives them. I told people that this election regardless of who won it could be a Pyrrhic victory. With Trump in charge, it surely will be.
@DukeLaxBro81 no, i'll be living my best life without social media for the forseeable future. I shed Facebook after 2020, it improved my mental health. Surely being off of this hellscape will be similarly good. ;)
@DukeLaxBro81 I’ll be fine. My this app/life balance is much better.
When the tariffs cause massive inflation again, we will revisit the gloating, you won, now reap what you’ve sown. 🤷♂️
@DukeLaxBro81 Bullshit. When all the votes are counted he will have won by about 1%. That isn’t a blowout by any definition of the word. What does that make Biden’s 5 point win? A super mega blowout?
@kc2fargo Full of the same idiots, but sometimes idiots are right and I was wrong. Have to wait for when Orange Jesus craters the economy to taunt them. 🤷🏼♂️
@minnervator@CCLP406 Again, not looking at you specifically, but I mean to be fair people like you and I could take over the Dakotas even easier (much cheaper there). But to the point the political ideas failed and/or weren’t persuasive otherwise they would be implemented where you came from.
Montana turnout reports:
HUGE turnout in Bozeman and Missoula. Good turnout in Yellowstone, and on Crow, Blackfeet and Northern Cheyenne.
Huge weather issues in Lewis and Clark and Cascade
@minnervator@CCLP406 I wanted to be clear that I don’t consider you part of the problem we are discussing. But tbh, we’ve seen people come and go and they all say what you are saying until they don’t.
@minnervator@CCLP406 don't care because someone told them it's free-dumb. But they'll be puzzled when the rivers and streams are all dead and there aren't any fish (like the Clark Fork used to be).
@minnervator@CCLP406 and then you'll move on because it didn't do what you thought it would, and we'll be left to clean up the mess.
And if it was just people like you who are reasonable, fine... but you're emboldening the moron militia types and the crap they'll pass will ruin our state. And they
