On this day — August 28, 1655

The Jews of New York (then New Amsterdam) were barred from the militia.

The official reason: “disgust and unwillingness” among the Christian guard to share a house with “the aforesaid nation.”

Peter Stuyvesant had already tried to expel them. He called Jews a “deceitful race,” “hateful enemies and blasphemers of the name of Christ,” who would “infect and trouble this new colony.”

Amsterdam overruled him. So he found another way.

Ban them from standing watch. Then tax them for the “privilege” of not serving.

Asser Levy and Jacob Barsimson asked to serve like other burghers, or be freed from the Jew-only tax. The council told them they were free to leave.

They stayed. Levy fought two years and won the right to stand guard.

The first Jews in New York were not asking for privilege.
They were demanding the right to defend a city that did not want them.

These are the words of Auschwitz Obersturmfuhrer Karl Höcker seen smiling and having the time of his life while running a commercialized death factory that murdered about 10,000 women, children, and elderly people every day.

After the war he lived as an anonymous bank teller until 1963 when he was picked up by German authorities, but on trial, sentenced to only five years for killing so many people.

In 2007 the US Holocaust Museum received a German photo album which shocked them to the core of their existence.

The album became known as the Höcker album and it is a series of pictures of the Auschwitz staff's daily life, the socialization, and the happy times they were having while operating the most monstrous killing machine in human history.

Seeing the rise of lethal and obsessive hatred to the Jewish people today, we see a similar pattern.

The people sharing genocidal fantasies about Israel's "disappearance" or forcing Jewish people out of public spaces by making us uncomfortable to identify as Jews, are are not scary, tall, strong, monstrous, and mean looking men with an ax in their hand; they are people like Greta Thunberg, @AnaKasparian, Nick Fuentes, and countless other young, enthusiastic, and seemingly harmless people.

If something horrible would happen to the Jewish people as a result of their rhetoric and actions they too, would likely say something like "I had no possibility in any way to influence the events and I neither wanted them to happen nor took part in them. I didn’t harm anyone and no one died at Auschwitz because of me".

The time to speak out against hate is now.

On this day — August 26–27, 1941

1,349 Jews from Posvol, Lithuania were marched into a forest and shot.

402 men.
738 women.
209 children.

They were told it was a labor camp.
Men were separated.
Then the killing began.

Some fought with their bare hands.
Infants were murdered on the way to the pits.

Local Lithuanian collaborators did most of the shooting.
The town council itself had voted for annihilation.

A centuries-old community was erased in a single Aktion.

This was the Holocaust by Bullets in Lithuania: fast, total, and carried out with the help of neighbors.
