Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable @kaminajsmith, on Friday (July 3), welcomed Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Honourable Serap Güler, during a visit to Jamaica.

The visit provided an opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding friendship between Jamaica and Germany and to advance discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation in areas including trade and investment, renewable energy, education and security.

Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable @kaminajsmith, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Honourable Alando Terrelonge @terrelonge2016, joined the Ambassador of Germany to Jamaica, His Excellency Jan Hendrik van Thiel for a reception hosted in honour of German Minister of State, Ms. Serap Güler, who visited the island on July 3.

The reception followed a bilateral meeting held between Jamaica and Germany at the Ministry’s headquarters in Kingston, where discussions centred on advancing bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest including trade and investment, security and education.

In her remarks at the reception, Minister Johnson Smith pinpointed the longstanding cooperation between Jamaica and Germany. She expressed appreciation to Minister Güler for her visit and underscored the value of the engagements undertaken during her brief stay.

Germany was among the first group of countries to establish diplomatic relations with Jamaica.
