Don’t wait until someone you know needs blood to donate. 🩸
Regular voluntary blood donation helps keep the blood supply ready for emergencies, surgeries, and patients in need every day.
Be a regular donor. Save lives. ❤️ #YoureSomebodysType
So you mean to tell me that someone down your ancestry line survived being chaıned to other human bodięs for several months in the bottom of a disease-infested ship during the Middle Passage, lost their language, customs and traditions, picked up the English language as best they could while working free of charge from sun up to sun down as they watched babies sold from out of their arms and women rapęd by ruthless sIave owners.
Took names with no last names, no birth certificates, no heritage of any kind, braved the Underground Railroad, survived the Civil Wąr to enter into sharecropping... Learned to read and write out of sheer will and determination, faced the burning crosses of the KƘK, everted their eyes at the black bodies swinging from ropes hųng on trees...
Fought in World Wąrs as soldiers only to return to America as boys, marched in Birmingham, hosed in Selma, jailed in Wilmington, assassinated in Memphis, segregated in the South, ghettoed in the North, ignored in history books, stereotyped in Hollywood...
and in spite of it all, someone in your family line endured every era to make sure you would get here, but you receive one rejection, face one obstacle, lose one friend, get overlooked, and you want to quit?
How dare you entertain the very thought of quitting. People, you will never know, survived from generation to generation so you could succeed. Don’t you dare let them down!
It is NOT in our DNA to quit!

Many thanks to the Hon. Earl Jarrett and the JN Group for hosting Minister @terrelonge2016 and I to breakfast with members of the private sector - mostly past sponsors - allowing us to share plans regarding the upcoming 11th Biennial Diaspora Conference and to discuss diaspora engagement more widely. Lovely morning focussed on nation building - very much looking forward to working with these companies and so many more as we strive to always widen engagement and conference participation! The last one was great and this year promises to be even greater! #staytuned #JamaicaDiasporaConference #MontegoBay @mfaftja
#freedomfighters against a brutal and unjust colonial system. Their legacy continues until the philosophy that holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned.
Tacky's War: 266 years ago today, on 7 Apr 1760, a Fanti paramount chief, Tacky (Akan: Takyi) and Dahomean war chief Apongo led hundreds of enslaved Africans in the capture of plantations and a British military base in St. Mary and western #Jamaica. "In terms of its shock to the imperial system, only the American Revolution surpassed Tacky's War in the eighteenth century.”The treatment of Africans in Jamaica was considered by contemporaries to be amongst the most brutal in the world. #Caribbean
