it’s harrowing seeing that after HIV/AIDS was sold as a disease that “only affects some people in a certain (undesirable) group,” causing the preventable suffering and deaths of millions, we just went ahead to repeat the same with COVID, a virus that spreads much more easily.
Every ‘anti-fraud’ measure in benefits programs costs more to enforce than it saves. But it’s not about savings. It’s about perpetuating the free rider myth, making poverty punitive and using disability and chronic illness as labor discipline.
Eugenics undergirds all of American society and it shouldn’t have taken all this for y’all to realize that ableism is applied not just to disabled people.
Ableism is what makes fascism work, not only do y’all not look in disabled people’s directions, but you will cheer on your
SARS2 fuses your neurons—your actual brain cells—even in asymptomatic/mild cases.
SARS2 causes more T-cell death/loss of naive T cells than HIV/AIDS.
SARS2 changes the DNA in your heart & the way calcium is handled.
SARS2 causes diabetes & cancer.
SARS2 accelerates aging.
"After pandemics, eugenics increases. We separate ourselves based on who's worthy and who's not. Pandemics accelerate our thoughts around disability and eugenics to the point where this is now very normalized language." - @Imani_Barbarin

SARS-CoV-2 is a vascular virus, not just a respiratory virus. To make it simpler for folks, call it a whole-body virus. No organ is spared. It infects our entire body and creates reservoirs throughout. @jlerollblues

We’ve got avian flu, measles, tuberculosis, influenza A and B, and norovirus going around in addition to COVID, without the ability to properly track it all because of the CDC information blackout. If you’re someone who set aside masking, I urge you to pick it back up.
This is how capitalism disciplines workers: by making harm feel *inevitable.* By turning suffering into “dedication.” By making the people keeping everything running—e.g. in a hospital transporters, sanitation, food service—feel *replaceable* if they can’t keep up & fall in line.
Mass infection didn’t become the norm *only* because ppl stopped caring. It was also because bosses & state made it the only option. Understaffing, no paid sick leave or safety measures—getting sick was built into work. Work does so much to normalize suffering in our daily lives.
I don’t exactly know how we get from where we are now to a better world, but the first step is to wear a mask. Start by refusing to cause harm, by admitting that things ain’t alright. Start by showing that you can’t be cowed by social pressure, that you stand by your principles.
Fascism works best when it convinces you that you have no responsibilities to other people. When you turn away from community, when you deny responsibility, when you devalue other lives, when you refuse to witness, this is how genocide is sanctioned.
this year public masking should become a symbol of resistance to the status quo, to emerging diseases, to toxic air, to facial recognition and surveillance, to business as usual. mask for justice, mask for survival
“Sir Elton John has said he's been unable to finish his new album because he is still struggling with his eyesight after getting an infection in July.
He has not been able to see out of his right eye for the past four months, & his left eye is ‘not the greatest.’”
Covid causes IMMENSE eye/ear/head/neck damage & dysfunction, but we seldom discuss it. 🧵
Covid depletes cells that are key to the immune system and getting covid regularly means you'll be sick more often and this will not strengthen your immune system it will progressively weaken it and you'll end up dying younger. You were lied to because you had to get back to work
