Britain is in an Energy Emergency.
But the Government is FAILING TO ACT. They have no plan, no idea what to do, and they’re leaving us exposed.
So today we’re launching The LFG Emergency Energy Bill to SAVE OUR INDUSTRIES and GET BILLS DOWN
Here’s how it would get bills down IMMEDIATELY:
1️⃣ SCRAP all levies on energy bills. These stealth taxes on the British people are unnecessarily hiking up their bills by hundreds of pounds.
2️⃣ REOPEN THE NORTH SEA, and directly deploy the tax revenue generated to GET BILLS DOWN.
3️⃣ Stop new CfD contracts and launch an investigation into the system that signed them off. Last year, billpayers paid £1.5 billion for big renewable corporations to THROW ENERGY AWAY. By 2030, it’ll be £8 billion. The existing settlement is a national scandal.
4️⃣ Scrap Clean Power 2030 targets. These needless constraints have pushed civil servants to procure wind at any cost – and at huge expense to the British people.
5️⃣ DITCH the duties of energy regulators, NESO and Ofgem, towards Net Zero goals, so their only focus is to MINIMISE ENERGY COSTS, subject to security of supply.
6️⃣ Hold auctions for connecting to the grid, and directly deploy the revenue generated to GET BILLS DOWN
Our Emergency Energy Bill has cross-party support. It is ready to PASS IMMEDIATELY. It does what governments for the past 20 years didn’t – it takes RADICAL ACTION to SAVE OUR INDUSTRIES and GET BILLS DOWN.

Here's how to get it done:
Specialised Acts for Key Projects
Move fast. No need to reform the entire system: the Victorians passed Acts to get infrastructure built by exempting it from other rules and processes.
We've gone away from that. We can do it again. Passing individual acts would allow adaptations for the specific circumstances.
Direct Accountability
Delays, cost overruns, and project overreach stem from where it is not clear who is responsible for what. There should be no excuses. All projects should be explicitly clear about who is in charge of the project, and who is responsible for the delivery of individual parts. A CEO must be appointed and, ultimately, they are responsible for success or failure.
A Clear Scope
Politicians must define and explicitly direct those in charge – they must be clear about what the outcome should be, the standards that should be met, and what is and isn’t in scope. There should be no room for manoeuvre: deadlines, budgets, and boundaries must be defined within the Act. What success and failure looks like should be unmistakable.
Remuneration Incentivised for Success
If the project is successfully delivered on time and on budget, the CEO and Board should be given large payments. If it’s successfully completed early or under budget, this bonus should be more substantial – with larger payouts the earlier or cheaper it is. Alternatively, if the project runs over budget, goes past the deadline, or involves work outside of the scope, no bonus is awarded. If the overreach or overruns are deemed significant, deductions should be made from the CEO’s salary.
Streamlined planning requirements & limited judicial reviews
Unnecessary requirements and endless judicial reviews made possible by our planning system have burdened and delayed the construction of projects across the country. We must streamline them to stop the declinists from taking up more time and resources, and focus on getting projects done on time and on budget.
Engineering Expert Sign-Off
Too many projects in Britain are not delivered to the necessary standard. Engineering experts must sign-off to say that the project has been completed to the necessary standards, and in scope, before final payments to the Board and CEO are awarded.

Disgraceful this has been allowed to drag on. Now they’ve been given a month to fix it - but they were given six weeks back in 2022!

In most of Europe the bigger a place is, the richer it is. The one big exception is the UK.
In big cities there are more opportunities for firms to specialise, more competition, bigger pools of workers for firms to recruit from and more places for people to choose to work at and buy from.
But getting around British cities is hard. Our roads are not wide like American cities and our public transport is worse than in Europe. One analysis by @thomasforth showed Birmingham was barely half the size once you took into account how difficult it was to get around at rush hour.
We compared British cities metro and tram systems to their twin cities. These are places in Europe they have pared up with due to their similar geography, history and economics. British cities come off worse whether you measure:
· Length of track
· Number of stations
· Number of passengers
There are two main reasons for this:
· British metro and tram projects are too expensive. We pay 83% more to get the same amount of rail infrastructure than our peer countries.
· British local government is too weak. In Germany and France local governments have far more power to raise and cut taxes and choose what money is spent on. Often they chose to spend it on a metro or tram.
In the medium term we need to get to a system more like France or Germany’s. Immediately the government should allow Mayors to use tourism levies, land value capture and workplace parking levies to fund transport infrastructure without any permission from Westminster.
This would be the start of letting Mayors build.
