On Hantavirus: a (non-technical) thread.
Disclaimer: I am a biology PhD, but not virology/epidemiology. Husbandman is a virology PhD. But I’m told I’m good at communicating science, so here’s my take.

To me, the deep life is about focusing with energetic intention on things that really matter — in work, at home, and in your soul — and not wasting too much attention on things that don’t.
Atmospheric scientist here. Let me tell you what was actually "slashed" today.
Slashed: The Endangerment Finding — a 200-page scientific review upheld by the Supreme Court, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, and reaffirmed by the National Academies of Sciences in 2025.
Slashed: The legal authority to regulate carbon from cars, power plants, and factories. All of it. Gone in one afternoon.
Now here's what you're "saving":
Yesterday Trump ordered the Pentagon — the largest energy consumer on Earth — to buy coal electricity.
Coal costs $69–$169/MWh.
Wind costs $27–$53/MWh.
Solar costs $38–$78/MWh.
99% of U.S. coal plants cost more to run than replacing them with brand-new solar or wind.
That's your tax dollars buying the most expensive electricity on the market. By executive order. While the Peabody Energy CEO stood in the room.
And the human cost of what you're "saving"?
460,000 American deaths linked to coal pollution in 20 years. Coal PM2.5 is 2.1x deadlier than other air pollution. (Henneman et al., Science, 2023)
All to protect an industry that employs 44,000 people total. Clean energy employs 3.5 million.
True intelligence comes from 3 core abilities: solving problems with clarity, adjusting with grace in any situation and making decisions that are thoughtful.
When these qualities grow, so does your inner strength. Nurture them a little every day and watch the shift within you.
I grew up Republican. Still am in many ways. But MAGA pushed the party so far right that I get called a liberal now.
Let me explain the difference:
Traditional Republicans believe in:
• Fiscal responsibility (balanced budgets, not exploding deficits for tax cuts)
• Limited government (actual small government, not big government that punishes your enemies)
• Strong institutions (courts, elections, constitutional norms matter)
• Personal responsibility (your actions have consequences)
• Free markets (not tariffs and trade wars)
• Strong alliances (NATO, international partnerships)
• Rule of law (no one is above it, including the president)
MAGA Republicans believe in:
• Whatever Trump says today (even if it contradicts yesterday)
• Loyalty tests (agree 100% or you're a traitor/RINO)
• Conspiracy theories over facts (stolen election, deep state, QAnon adjacent stuff)
• Grievance politics (owning the libs > actual policy)
• Personality cult (Trump loyalty above party, above country, above truth)
• Performative outrage (culture war theater instead of governance)
• Ends justify means (storm the Capitol, ignore election results, whatever it takes)
I didn't move left. The party moved off a cliff.
I still believe in conservative principles. But when you say "maybe we should respect election results" or "fiscal responsibility matters" or "rule of law applies to everyone," you get called a liberal.
That's not conservatism. That's a cult.
The highest level of thinking is to be able to hold your mind in your hands, examine it with honesty, re-shape it with intention, and create with it life that is truly your own. #Aperture
