@HesseJanis I'm genuinely curious, wouldn't this explain why people on psychedelics (namely salvia) often report time stretching so much they feel they lived several years inside their trip?
@Zinger_X@Simmy16242170 Yes obviously what you said affects, but to many it's not just a "talent" but something you have a deep personal connection to. I have no idea how this is narcissistic at all, when I had similar thoughts i hated myself lol. Here is a close real example https://t.co/1F6YRlZuwO
i understand that it's important to remain positive in times like these, but it really is terrifying. i'm a physicist. i love reading about cool results in my field as well. but if all i could do was read, i don't think i would have pursued physics. part of the reason i do what i do is to fit into a community and derive meaning from my life. i think the time for that will soon be over. a lot of my negative emotions stem from this. i will have to find a way to justify my existence outside of my ability to produce cool results.
Es increíble esta red social. Gente hablando de cómo van a cambiar las matemáticas sin tener ni idea de matemáticas. Despreciando a los demás por el camino. Ni los matemáticos que nos dedicamos a ello tenemos idea.
@kimmonismus Yes, I see non-math people who don't fully grasp this. imo this is at least two field medals (nobel equivalent), and about a decade of progress in a freaking month
@yuzu_4ever Physics Phd candidate here, we are next bro, I think we should move towards experimental / more applied problems before it's too late, how long are you into your PhD?
@diesunusomnia I don't need to be a professor to make a better theory: The solution to the AI alignment problem is to make it live a simulated life, which is ours. Good AIs that pass the harsh tests are kept (an afterlife), the rest are deleted.
