Consultative and technical workshop on the development of Agroecology (AE) strategy.

Rwanda Organic Agriculture Movement in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources organized a consultative and technical workshop on the development of the Agroecology strategy for sustainable food systems in Rwanda, held from 26 to 27 May 2026 at La Palisse Hotel Nyamata, Bugesera District.

The workshop aimed to bring together technical experts and researchers from MINAGRI to develop a shared understanding of Agroecology and its contribution to the agriculture sector. It also focused on designing a roadmap and action plan tailored to the Rwandan food system context. The Ministry agreed to lead and coordinate the process until final validation.

During the KCOA Transition Team Meeting, participants visited La Ferme du Lac, where they experienced agroecological practices, innovations, and farmer-led learning systems in action as part of the meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.

ROAM in collaboration with MINAGRI was pleased to organize the 2nd round of Consultative and Technical Workshop on the development of the National Agroecology Strategy in Rwanda on 25 and 26 June at La Palme Hotel in Musanze.
In fact, the workshop follows the initial round of discussions concluded with the experts and researchers from MINAGRI and RAB on the benefits of AE and how the AE principles can be applied in the local context while aligning implementation with existing policies and strategies.
As outcome from the workshop, participants were able to come up with a skeleton the AE Strategy as well as a clear roadmap and timeline towards developing the AE Strategy for Resilient and Sustainable Agri-Food Systems in Rwanda.
We acknowledge the presence of key institutions in this workshop: MINAGRI, RAB, REMA, FAO and RCCDN.

On 19 March 2026, farmers gathered for an exciting Farmer Market Day under the theme “Know What You Eat.”

The purpose of the event was to allow farmers to showcase fresh organic products from cooperatives and PGS groups, connect farmers to consumers in Kigali, and sensitize consumers to be conscious of what they eat.

The Marathon Village by @kigalifaam was buzzing with energy as @RwandaRoam supported farmers and Artisans in their network to attend and exhibit their Organic products and Handicrafts at Amahoro Stadium! 10,000 urban and international registered runners for the #KigaliInternationalPeaceMarathon2025 explored fresh, healthy organic products connecting directly with the hands that grow and create. From farm fresh produce to handcrafted treasures, this was more than a marketplace; it was a movement toward a healthier, and more sustainable future!

The CEO of ROAM @DusabeLise was privileged to participate in the 2 Day Multi Stakeholders workshop with the Theme : Leveraging Intraregional Trade of Organic Products From the Eastern Africa Region organized by @IISD, @EACsecretariat, @AfrONet_ and @nogamu at Four Points by Sheraton Kampala. Representatives from National Organic Movements in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe, the National Bureau of Standards, the EAC secretariat and IISD Team engaged in serious discussions to create enabling environment to facilitate trade of organic products in the EAC region but also across the continent by taking advantage of the existence of the East African Organic Product Standard as well the KILIMOHAI Trade Mark, looking at the barriers but also the opportunities available.
