A place for conversations about great ideas in and for libraries, museums, schools & educational orgs, and non-profits. #podcasts#publicservice#infosci#LIS
as a disabled library science major, can any disabled librarians chime in with any issues (or successes!) they deal with regarding accessibility while at work?
For example, working in inaccessible historic libraries that are protected.
I read a lot of books in prison. They helped make the unbearable moments more bearable.

@himissjulie Like what if the library said, okay, this is expensive to do for just homebound, how could we allocate existing resources to expand this program? Or get a grant to pilot home delivery for all patrons? Or offer it like a TOMS-style add on service. I have so many ideas for this!
@himissjulie And the "solution" to perceived "high scam" services is to just not advertise them, which means people who do need the service don't know about it. But! What if we saw "scams" as demand, and found innovative ways to offer people the services they obviously want.
3 years ago today I asked my friend to do an Intro to Improv program at the library. A 70 year old stroke victim said she came because she felt lost and wanted to know what to say faster. She loved it so much that she’s been to every program I’ve offered since.
New episode about every #book nerd's favorite activity, #browsing. (And if you think we're not talking about the national trend toward centralization and how that impacts our collections, you don't know us very well!) #colldev https://t.co/Zc5sz1IXXf
@DeborahLDwyer 10 years of monthly income based repayment, completing paperwork to certify eligible employment, and applying for forgiveness after confirming I’d made 120 eligible payments. Tips here. https://t.co/C8Ju2vMW1k
I'm reminded of the logic I learned in art school, particularly around critique, a pillar of academia: that fair criticism can only ever come from a place of love. That in order to ask someone, something, some idea, some org, some country to do better, you have to believe it can.
Our local #artmuseum is making national headlines for holding their leadership accountable. Our co-host @happywonderfool has known so many employees personally over a 15+ year span, and this is LONG overdue. #whoistheartmuseumfor
Keep spreading the word! We will be reminding you daily. Join us next Thurs! We will continue to put pressure on Jon & Drew. They must reckon with the museum's past. They need to listen to our solutions for moving forward. All cultural work is political work.
