I have this one person. We don’t like each other and we never say the “right” things. We’ve been friends for as long as I can remember — and that’s the beauty of it.
Conflicts, including the ones inside us, make us who we are.
The world is not your mirror, @markmanson — and out there, you’ll have to deal with more than just your own reflection.
The most radical counter-move today is not to argue with everyone, but to quietly stay normal:
Not to chase other people’s approval, but to sit at the table with your close ones.
Not to prove your uniqueness to the world, but to stay loyal to your own people.
Not to run after speed, but to read slowly and think deeper.
They didn’t give out awards for this before. Today, they don’t even ask for likes for it.
@markmanson Our observations suggest that the brain often miscalculates not the facts, but the priorities.
It says, “Do this — it’s the right thing.”
And intuition replies, “Right for whom?”
Sometimes, that inner conflict is what people mistake for laziness.
Absurd Forms of Evil(Base concept)
Evil rarely wears a black cape or builds a base inside a volcano. It’s far more subtle:
– It’s the author of “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience” — with no intention of changing anything.
– It inserts a contract clause saying “I’ve read and agreed,” even when you haven’t.
– It organizes “public consultations” that no one attends — except the organizers themselves.

Sometimes we don’t really want to heal.
Not because we enjoy the pain, but because the pain is like a luggage tag — proof that something once mattered enough to be lost.
Which is, admittedly, irrational.
But in a universe where toast always lands butter-side down, and elevators develop existential crises on Tuesdays, irrationality might be the only honest response.
So we sit with our pain like a lost suitcase on a baggage carousel, convinced that inside it is the shirt, the one that still smells like a place we can’t go back to.
Healing would mean admitting the luggage isn’t coming back.
And maybe, just maybe, we’ve been standing at the wrong carousel this whole time.
@GOPMajorityWhip Three things are true tonight:
1.Someone’s lying.
2.Someone’s definitely lying.
3.The guy declaring “three truths” is usually number two.

Fear is biology.
The calendar is stationery.

how to stop wasting time.
Then added a new task to his list:
“Make a better plan.
This time — the perfect one.”

@shaneparrish They were meant to guard power.
But power fed them.
So they stayed—quietly by the door,
peeking through the gap,
hoping no one would ask:
“Who are you guarding, exactly?”
