Diving deep into crypto alchemy, I think there’s a real chance the meme/stock pairing becomes a permanent meta.
The interesting part is that the meme token in demand can effectively become a lightweight prediction market for a specific narrative around the company, while the stock token remains the base asset that value ultimately routes back to.
For example, every Elon narrative could be spun out as its own narrative token paired with the SpaceX stock token Asteroid, Mars, Starship, etc. The same could happen with TSM, with tokens like Autsm or 2NM, or with DJT and something like Trump Strait. Each narrative could spin up its own ephemeral token.
Each one becomes a market for that specific narrative, but they’re all paired against and economically anchored to the base stock token.
So instead of having one asset trying to price every narrative, you get hundreds of short term narrative markets sitting on top of a stock base token.
Can push this further for narrative tokens could also have an expiration or resolution mechanism. At expiration, holders could burn the narrative token and receive a pro rata claim on the paired stock tokens in the vault, effectively returning some capital back to the base asset.
Or instead of fully redeeming holders could roll the position into the next narrative token for the stock. For example, burn Autsm, retain your economic claim on the TSM vault, and receive preferential allocation or LP shares in the next narrative.
This could also create a flywheel where new narratives can be bootstrapped using the existing community of holders etc
Someone recently shared this paper with me, which rigorously studies the execution improvement of visible TWAPs on Hyperliquid: "Trading in the Sunshine or in the Shade: Market Impact and Adverse Selection on Hyperliquid," by Davide Barone and Fabrizio Lillo.
In physics, theorists can say all they want, but the case isn't closed until an experimentalist comes with the cold hard data. So thank you to the authors of this paper for their hard work! The paper demonstrates that liquidity net tightens as onchain TWAPs surface, improving the average execution of the TWAP order.
This has been a deeply personal question for me. Even before building Hyperliquid, I've defended from first principles that transparent trading ought to improve execution for non-toxic flow. This is a corrollary of the efficient market hypothesis, but the amount of pushback always surprised me. I've quote tweeted a previous post where I make the argument in detail.
Transparency and equal access bring improved execution over traditional private venues. It's an honor to build with everyone to upgrade the financial system with onchain technology.
Thread below discussing memecoins and the environment they typically succeed in
The punchline is that low-cap memecoins typically offer uncorrelated returns, and that on-chain activity typically heats up pre- and post- periods of significant uncertainty
