The historic Kinnaird Head Castle and Lighthouse is open for tours. Tours are run from the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

Open Wednesday to Sunday. Closed in the Winter season on Mondays and Tuesdays. @DFraserburgh @visitabdn @GoIndustScot

Fresnel Lenses in lighthouses are a true work of art and ingenuity considering they were first used in a lighthouse in 1823. Visiting a lighthouse where it’s possible to get a close look at the Fresnel Lens, if one remains, is well worth the visit.

A close-up view of our Fresnel lens from @nicnac530 on Insta. That lens hasn't left our light station since 1909, and is still operational as an Aid to Navigation through the US Coast Guard.

It was lit with kerosene and wicks in 1909, but now we use a 1000 watt halogen bulb!
