GrapheneOS is defending its duress password feature after a user was charged in the US for allegedly activating it during a federal border search.
The GrapheneOS foundation cannot and will not help US prosecutors in any way.
A duress password is a second passcode that doesn’t unlock your phone, instead, it securely wipes the device’s encrypted data, making it inaccessible.
GrapheneOS says the feature is legal and exists to protect user privacy.
The project also says it has no ability to recover wiped data or assist investigators because the data is permanently erased.
❗️Chatbots are obliged to tell users they aren't human, deepfakes must be labelled and AI outputs must carry machine-readable marks, all starting this Sunday as the EU's AI Act becomes enforceable.
Europe can fine up to €15M or 3% of global turnover.
Austria and Italy have today been connected for the first time via the new Brenner Base Tunnel, a megaproject that is set to become the longest continuous tunnel in the world.

Microsoft is preparing a major Windows 11 performance push, and the real target is WinUI.
Windows 11 is moving to WinUI, including the Start menu and Agenda view in Notification Center.
At Build 2026, Windows UI engineer Chris Anderson previously said Microsoft has invested heavily in reducing WinUI memory usage and moving it to the Windows system compositor for better performance.
Right now, you can feel the WinUI tax in places like File Explorer. Open “This PC” and then compare it with the WinUI-based Home tab. The difference is obvious, especially on low-end hardware.
Microsoft is testing memory, performance, and reliability fixes before rolling out the WinUI Start menu. The UI may not look dramatically different, but it should stutter less and use less RAM.
Microsoft is fully committed to major Windows 11 performance improvements.
Vanguard has been updated and can now be set to run only when Valorant is opened
However, your PC needs to meet a set of hardware and software requirements to make the change
Riot Games has updated its Vanguard anti-cheat to support on-demand sessions starting today.
This means the driver component will no longer launch automatically when the PC starts up.
Instead, it will only activate when a Riot game is launched, but only on systems that meet specific modern security hardware requirements, including pre-boot protection features.
The change is optional, and users do not need to take any action unless they want to enable the new mode for reduced background activity.
Starting later today, Vanguard will be able to run in on-demand mode for players on Windows 11.
You just need to enable some optional security features for your motherboard, and your taskbar can have 256 of its pixels back. Take it away, @deteccphilippe.
Video games providers must treat consumers fairly.
Under EU consumer law consumers must be informed about the duration and conditions of a video game’s lifespan.
If the supply is stopped earlier than the contract states, players should be reimbursed.
