Hontiveros warned that granting unchecked procurement powers was a recipe for abuse. Fast forward to the Pharmally scandal, and billions in pandemic funds were wasted on overpriced supplies while actual health workers suffered.
What's the status of the securities fraud case filed by SEC vs the Villar family for fraudulently deceiving the investing public by manipulating their company's financial statements to make it appear that theirs is the only company in the entire country to earn P1T in a year?
You know, “magnanakaw galit sa kapwa magnanakaw,”
Laws have to be interpreted in a way that makes sense.
@GManicurist@piacayetano "Bibitbitin kita, kukwelyuhan kita, palalayasin kita.. is that a grave threat? ... I'll tell you may personal opinion, and I'll tell you now.. I felt it was a grave threat .."
What more yung sinabi ni sara?
@dailynetizen24 Good vs evil pala ito. Ang gaspang ng ugali ni Pia. I admire Sen Risa's endless patience with this despicable woman. Pia sounded too defensive.
@nabunturanguy D nila naisip, the higher the grade her camp is claiming, the more questionable it becomes. Dahil it doesn’t show in the way she acts and the way she speaks and most importantly, the way she thinks.
The fourth day of the Sara Duterte impeachment trial was simply too long. The court adjourned nearly three hours later than scheduled. A good part of that time was spent on long, winding arguments over typographical errors and other technical defects in affidavits which is hardly the best use of the court’s time, and certainly not of the public’s. Once again, an impeachment trial that should primarily be for the senator-judges, and ultimately for the Filipino people, was consumed by lengthy exchanges among lawyers and senators seemingly eager to play trial judges.
Yet amid the procedural detours, the day’s most important exchange came from SJ Risa Hontiveros. Questioning another NBI witness, who, to be fair, has been as impressive as the previous one, Hontiveros asked a series of clear, illuminating questions.
Is an actual contract between the Vice President and an assassin necessary for her alleged plan to kill the President, the First Lady, and the Speaker to constitute the crime of grave threats? The NBI official answered: no.
Can grave threats exist even if the threat is conditional— as in the VP’s statement that the assassination would happen only if she herself were killed? The NBI regional director said yes.
Then came the question that, to me, best served a confused public because it directly confronts the defense’s argument: so when does a threat cease to be protected speech and become a crime? The NBI official pointed to the clear and present danger and dangerous tendency tests, explaining that the latter had been satisfied by the VP’s statements.
SJ Hontiveros is, as the currently detained Senator Rodante Marcoleta once pointed out, not a lawyer. That, it turns out, is an advantage. She is doing what this trial is supposed to do: ask the questions that ordinary Filipinos watching at home would want answered, in language they can follow, toward conclusions they can understand. That is the service this impeachment court owes the public. That is what it looks like for the impeachment trial to be lawful without being legalistic.
Just as notable was SJ Bam Aquino’s observation: so far, the defense has not denied that the VP did contract an assassin to carry out her kill orders against the president, et. al. Was the VP lying then when she made those threats?
Well, Defense says it denies that the VP contracted an assassin (and was therefore lying??) and will argue to such effect in due time. When that argument will finally come, we still do not know. But one hopes that when that time comes, it will not take another marathon of procedural sparring just to arrive at the simplest of points.
President Nadine Lustre speaking up on the disposal of trash on indigenous people’s land. She promoted Kara David’s documentary and commented on how badly-treated the environment, and the Aetas are. She also took a swipe at corrupt officials. That’s our President. 🙌
‘BAKIT GINANITO PO NILA?’
In the “Ibinasurang Paraiso” documentary of I-Witness, Kara David brought to light the story behind the mountains of trash dumped in the middle of a forest in Subic, Zambales.
Erlinda Capistrano, one of the residents in the area, said in the documentary.
senri’s role in the impeachment trial (at least for me) is to make sure that we don’t lose sight of what the conversation is about no?
no matter how much the conversation gets spinned, she anchors us back with questions that means to clarify. she’s also doing it for us — to make sure we don’t get lost with too much technical terms and strategies. salamat, sen @risahontiveros 🫶🏼❤️🔥
Walang paligoy-ligoy.
Galing ng line of questioning ni Sen @risahontiveros , as always.

In his commencement speech to the graduates of UP Law 2026, Mayor Vico Sotto shared that he is always asked by people how he keeps his integrity. They ask for his advice on the age old question of:
“Paano kami hindi kakainin ng sistema?”
As a result, he shared ten things he does or thinks about regularly to avoid being eaten by the system.
Here are the TEN THINGS that Mayor Vico Sotto does or follows to keep his integrity:
1. Preparation is more important than courage.
2. Make a list of non-negotiables and review them regularly.
3. When in doubt, choose faith conscience and integrity over money power and ambition.
4. Study cognitive dissonance and continuously identify how and where it affects you. Your decision-making and opinion-forming.
5. Get out of your echo chamber from time to time.
6. Check your ego every single day.
7. Have people in your life who share the same or similar principles, values, and beliefs.
8. Allow said people in #7 to keep you grounded.
9. Give these people the license to hold you accountable.
10. Have a healthy level of respect but also be willing to go against the status quo.
Then the crowd cheered in applause. 👏

I support doing all ten but I would like to personally highlight Numbers 3, 6, and 7! 💯

🚨 The Sandiganbayan asked the PNP why they allowed BP Sara Duterte and Sen. Robinhood Padilla to visit Sen. Rodente Marcoleta if he was isolated for pneumonia (which is contagious).
Kudos to the SB Justices!
No to special treatment. Kasi kawawa naman si Revilla at Jinggoy.
😂
