Organizing Committee member Lillian had this to share on why she supports a union for researchers:
“I support Research Workers United because I care about my coworkers. My unit is very small and tight-knit, so when one of us is mistreated, we all feel the strain.”
Research Workers United (RWU) is proud to host our first virtual information session on September 14th at 6:30pm! Tune in to hear a short presentation by members of our organizing committee, followed by an audience-led Q&A on what unionizing could look like for OHSU researchers.
@Formorphology Feel all of this and had my own little grad school breakdown last night. I wish we all had a restart 😔
You’re not alone! Hopefully all our advisors and departments and future employers will respect the crazy delays and loss we’ve all experienced.
For context, I broke/sprained the hell out of this ankle in July. Was finally given the okay from physical therapy to go back to normal activities like a 3 weeks ago. 🙃
Okay but I’m dumb and apparently scheduled it in my calendar for a different time zone, because turns it out IT’S AT 10AM.
Guess the science thing is worth it still 🤷♀️
I’ve been seeing a lot of “how to choose a PhD supervisor/lab/graduate program” tweets and must add: you can not know how to do this and screw everything up and it can all still turn out relatively okay.
I have seen some talk today of scientists boycotting TX because of the new horrendous antiabortion laws. As someone who has lived in two famously problematic states, Texas and Florida, I have some thoughts and an alternative course of action. 🧵(1/5)
