Part of Sukuna's eventual defeat that we don't talk about is the psychological aspect.
Why did Sukuna not lock in during his final moments & instead engage in meaningless verbal conflict?
I think Sukuna could've made it out & won if he locked in, but he couldn't. He was too stunned. Because Yuji & Megumi had seen him for what he really was. They directly observed his soul & the truth shook him out of his meticulously crafted & reinforced facade. Putting him in an out of character panic & returning him to humanity so that he could be defeated. Weakening his connection to his inhuman means of immortality, the cursed object.
I think this was a very important necessary layer to the Sukuna defeat that I haven't seen anyone dive into or list yet. It was integral.
Sukuna has never hated another character besides Yuji..
He's hated Yuji since before he could even fathom the feeling or understand the cause..
But he & Gege actually tell us why early on..
We just didn't know how much weight would be put on that singular violation back then..
For Sukuna, access to his soul without consent was the worse thing that could ever be done to him..
Giving Yuji the means to shatter Sukuna's self image..
Yuji had the ability to return Sukuna to humanity, not through defeat, but through understanding..
