EXCLUSIVE: With two days to go before Sweden’s knife-edge general election, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has a warning for Europe: Don’t trust the left on defense. https://t.co/UwJE6Fj92j
"Ceuta is a pressure cooker that could explode at any moment."
These were the stark words of warning from the President of Ceuta, @JuanVivasLara, at a press conference in the European Parliament alongside LIBE Committee Chair MEP @zarzalejosj.
Mr Vivas called on the European Parliament to state, categorically and unequivocally, that Spain's southern border - the only two land borders Europe has in Africa - is a European border, including that of Melilla. No country, he said, can maintain a policy of cooperation with Europe if it does not respect that border. And he insisted that control of it must lie "in the hands of Spain and Europe, rather than those of a third country."
Normality, he said, can only return through the return of all those who entered illegally and en masse on 30 and 31 July, and through a stronger, more visible European presence at the border, via Frontex and the EU Agency for Asylum.
His warning to Europe was stark: "If Ceuta sinks, Spain sinks, and Europe sinks."
The EPP Group stands with him. Ceuta is Europe's border.
This is not simply a migration crisis. It is a border security crisis.
We need clear answers from the Spanish Government, and guarantees that what happened in Ceuta can never happen again.
The people of Ceuta are not alone. Europe stands with you, dear President @JuanVivasLara. Ceuta’s border is Europe’s border 🇪🇸🇪🇺. Those who have no right to stay must return now.
With @JuanVivasLara today in Brussels, I expressed my full solidarity and of the Commission with the people of Ceuta following the extremely difficult events of this summer.
I commended the authorities, emergency services, civil society and citizens for managing an exceptional situation. Ceuta can count on European solidarity.
We discussed the importance of sustained cooperation between Spain, Morocco and the EU to strengthen border management, prevent dangerous illegal journeys, combat smuggling networks and ensure effective returns and reintegration, including for minors, in line with international law.
Thank you President Vivas for the good meeting today. We continue to stand with the people of Ceuta in these testing times.
Ceuta’s border is our EU border. We continue to work together to defend our external border.
The priority remains that those with no right to stay return.

Tune in to the press conference with Ceuta President Juan Jesús Vivas and EP Civil Liberties Committee Chair Javier Zarzalejos for a first-hand account of the situation on the ground.
An attack on Ceuta is an attack on Europe. Defending its security and border means defending Europe’s territorial integrity.

Sweden has gone from being an international cautionary example to an international role model when it comes to serious gang crime.
Sometimes, we Swedes understand what is happening in our own country best when it is described from the outside. Now that established media outlets in other countries, such as the Financial Times, are highlighting Sweden’s successes in tackling the gangs, it is time to pause and take stock.
None of this would have been possible if we had backed down every time we were criticized for “going too far” or “moving too fast.” Achieving new results requires entirely new approaches. That is what we have done, and now we are seeing the results.
Since we entered government in 2022, deadly gang violence has fallen by 75 percent. Shootings are down by 80 percent. At the same time, twice as many gang criminals are being arrested abroad.
This progress is the result of determined action: stronger policing, better tools for law enforcement, tougher measures against organised crime, and — critically — close cooperation with international partners.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to the countries that have worked with us to bring dangerous criminals to justice. Our cooperation is built on a shared interest. Organised criminal networks that operate across borders do not only threaten Sweden. They pose a serious risk of violence and other serious crime wherever they are based.
Now that almost four years have passed, much of the clean-up work has been done. But we are not finished until we have finally defeated the gangs and restored a sense of security to everyone in Sweden.
On Sunday, it will be decided whether we get the chance to finish the job. We must hand over a safe and secure country to our children and grandchildren.

Confirmation that Russia was behind the drone attack at Leipzig Airport is yet another clear indication that Moscow is waging a campaign of hybrid war across Europe.
The EU must respond decisively: with stronger sanctions, increased vigilance and continued, unwavering support for Ukraine.
Russia must understand that an attack against one of us is an attack against all of us. The EU must stand together and make it clear that European security is non-negotiable.
Putin’s fascist regime must be stopped.

🇪🇸🇪🇺Europe stands with Ceuta and its people.
Today, hundreds gathered at the European Parliament to send a clear message: Ceuta is not alone. Europe stands with you and will stand up for you.
MEPs @LenaDuepontMdEP, @tomastobe, @AndrzejHalicki, @anampedro and @DolorsMM made it loud and clear: an attack on Ceuta is an attack on Europe.
An attack on Ceuta is an attack on Europe.
Defending its security, peaceful coexistence and border is therefore essential to safeguarding the territorial integrity of the entire European Union.
Our support, solidarity, and empathy are with the people of Ceuta today and always.
They are on the front line of this security crisis and have suffered the largest ever recorded irregular entry at an EU external border: at least 72,000 migrants arrived within hours. Their reality is still far from normal, with thousands of irregular migrants remaining in the city. The challenges are real: increased crime, unsanitary conditions, and the severe impact this situation is having on people’s daily lives.
Let's help Ceuta return to normal by facilitating the return of those who entered illegally and by preventing a similar crisis from occurring again.
Once again the friends of Russia from extreme left and right found each others voting against EU defence budget for 2027 in EP Security and Defence committee @EP_Defence Luckily the majority for Europe is strong and clear as the final numbers show!
Sweden has gone from being a cautionary tale to becoming an example for others.
For many years following the refugee crisis, Sweden was known for its unsustainable migration policy and the consequences that followed.
That is no longer the case. Since we took office, we have implemented a paradigm shift in Swedish migration policy.
Today, asylum-related immigration is at historically low levels, giving us better conditions than ever to successfully integrate those who have already come to Sweden.
We are making sure that foreign nationals who commit crimes are sentenced to deportation – and that those deportation orders are actually enforced.
We have raised the requirements for Swedish citizenship to ensure that receiving a citizenship marks becoming a fully integrated part of Swedish society. And we have reformed labour migration, with a clear focus on attracting highly skilled workers.
Sweden has changed course. After many years of unsustainable migration policy, we are now heading in the right direction.

Ska en regering byggas på dessa antisemiters mandat?
Ha statsråd från ett parti som hyllar islamister och företräder utländska intressen och konflikter?
Ska Sveriges säkerhet försättas i fara då NATO-länder slutar dela underrättelser p.g.a extremister i regeringsunderlaget?
