A Gen Z joined the team.
Week one.
During onboarding, the manager said,
“We sometimes stay late during peak periods.”
Gen Z nodded.
Then asked,
“Is that paid… or just expected?”
The room went quiet.
- No attitude.
- No rebellion.
- Just a question.
Later that day, HR mentioned “growth opportunities.”
Gen Z replied,
“Does growth include raises, or just more responsibility?”
Again, silence.
- No laziness.
- No entitlement.
- Just clarity.
That’s when the team realized something.
When people say
“Gen Z is lazy,”
what they really mean is:
Gen Z watched old generation
- skip meals,
- miss birthdays,
- work weekends,
- and burn out
only to be told
“budgets are tight”
and “be grateful you have a job.”
So Gen Z chose differently.
- They don’t romanticize overwork.
- They don’t confuse suffering with ambition.
- They don’t trade health for praise.
They still work hard.
They just refuse to work for nothing.
It’s not laziness.
It’s pattern recognition.
And honestly,
after everything old generation went through…
Can you really blame them?
Have been retired for 4 years and 5 months. RSS update letter today saying next update April 2026. Has anyone else waited this long or longer @goldstone_tony
@duolingo your app isn’t working. Been down all day. I have just signed out to see if that would fix it and now it won’t let me log back in. I pay for a subscription so this is really disappointing. Can you help?
It's been an utterly abominable 24 hours for Brexit news:
- The UK gave up on negotiations to extend our trade deal with Canada, leaving us worse off than when we were an EU member
https://t.co/EkwL7Ux6TG
- New incoming border checks will add £200 million a year to the cost of our food and drink.
https://t.co/gxYDOLZdeE
- MPs were warned that the EU's upcoming ETIAS/EES border systems may lead to 14-hour queues to enter (the rest of) Europe from the autumn.
https://t.co/L0rpDZLNTZ
- There were warnings of possible shortages of flowers for Valentines Day because of the new incoming border checks.
https://t.co/G7ao5PRwOS
- A plan to extend visas for British expats in France from 90 to 180 days was blocked by France's Constitutional Council court (a decision which has no right of appeal).
https://t.co/tTIfgcgYFd
- Rishi Sunak's pledge to ensure no future laws can create a border down the Irish Sea has gone down like a bucket of sick in TUV quarters. (And has sent the blood pressure of the usual suspect Brexiters sky-high.)
https://t.co/odwcopbjcJ
- The EU's plans to increase bulk medicine procurement across the bloc risk creating shortages in Britain because they have very significantly greater buying power than the UK does.

Phew! That's a truly catastrophic batch of headlines for just one day...
@Roddy_Neilson@qvakeroats How about having to do your own ESRs and always being too busy to go back in an hour to check it? We are showing our age Roddy 😩
The @DHSCgovuk has published a Medicines Shortage Notification (MSN/2023/051) confirming that Novo Nordisk’s GlucaGen® (glucagon) HypoKit® is in short supply and making recommendations to HCPs about action they can take as a result to support patients 📰 https://t.co/E0pKmDZpeL
"We must never ever let the NHS free from our grasp, because if we do, your future will be my past…"
Just over 4 years ago @Harryslaststand gave what is still, in my opinion, one of the best speeches in defence of the #NHS I've ever heard.
#SaveOurNHS
This is worth watching. Glasgow firemen (as titled then) passionately and eloquently explaining why they were striking. Plenty reads over to today, but particularly this, how long should workers tolerate the onus being put on them for dedication without appropriate remuneration.
@wesstreeting@DailyMirror Fix social care. The underfunding of social care is the root cause of much of the NHS’s problems and solving that is the first prescription that’s needed.
