11/ Democracy isn’t self-sustaining.
It requires us to choose it — again and again.
Not with platitudes. But with vigilance, accountability, and courage.
We still have time. But not forever.
I recently presented commendation letters from @OttFire@ChiefHutt to Findlay Creek @ShopprsDrugMart owner Mo & team who helped save the life of a customer earlier this year - thank you for being great neighbours - Merci pour votre action rapide pour aider à sauver une vie!
Firefighters contained a fire that started in an attic last night.
At approx. 22:37, the Ottawa Fire Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call from a resident reporting a fire in their attic in the 0-100 block of Hutchison Ave. Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed heavy smoke coming from the roof of the two-storey single family home. A "working" fire was declared to dispatch additional resources to the scene. Firefighters initiated a fast attack and advanced a hose line inside the home. The home owner was outside and reported everyone had safely exited the home. Firefighters opened up parts of the ceiling to access and extinguish the flames. Firefighters did two full searches of the structure and confirmed there were no occupants inside. A cat was located in the basement during searches and was safely brought out to their owner. The roof became too compromised, so Firefighters had to be evacuated off due to safety concerns. An aerial ladder was used to remove the roof vents and flow water into the attic. The fire was declared under control at 00:11. A thermal imaging camera (TIC) was used to locate and extinguish hot spots to prevent any flare ups. High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the structure. Firefighters performed salvage operations by putting tarps over the owner's belongings to prevent water and smoke damage. There are no reported injuries. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene. #OttNews

@rollforlearning@ETFOeducators@ETFOpresident Binding arbitration works for the Police and Fire Fighters really well. An arbitrator listens to both sides and uses precedent to make decisions. All the government employees getting increases that match inflation would be my guess as to what an arbitrator would decide.
@John_woodward1 Very sorry to hear this. I hope you go live the best 12-15 months of your life right away! Hoping it lasts much longer than the time given.
CRA workers want 'unprecedented' pay raise of more than 30% over 3 years, due to cost of living.
Meanwhile in Ontario, #Bill124, a bill that restricts public sector wage increases to 1% for most workers (mostly women) remains on the books. #onted#onpoli

@unlearn_com To Kill A Mockingbird. It opened my eyes to racism. I read it in high school. I was truly naive about racism and how it affected justice. I found it shocking. It shattered my innocent view of a just world.
@IWeatherON My son was planning on coming home for Christmas. Driving on Saturday from Cambridge to Ottawa. Seems like he’ll be driving through storms all the way home. I’ll tell him to wait.
