We #DHEdinb team managed to make the digital project #themedicalother in collaboration with National Library of Scotland, AntConc 3.5.9, Geonames and Google Map. We successfully uploaded our text analysis, digital maps and further resources about ‘the Other’ in British India👩🏻💻
#DHEdinb Created a map about medical history of British India https://t.co/MX2oNLPDJP, and it's very intriguing to learn how to make the long list of data visually presented!
Meanwhile in Afghanistan... tens of thousands seeking refuge; five million children facing famine; 500% increase in child marriages; children being sold to feed families... Not a mention of it.
My god, they must be wondering what makes their humanitarian crisis so unimportant.
MUST READ...With what prescience, Kissinger predicted on the morrow of the CIA-backed coup in Ukraine in February 2014 what lay in the womb of time! Amazing that successive administrations - Obama downward - behaved with such arrogance, nonetheless.

@Stwing_Ray I like your point! It's intriguing that Clement involves gender to demonstrate the balance between simple logocentric text mining in DH and the complex ground truth. Do you think the computer and certain sociological words are dichotomous? Is there any interaction between them?
@jaclyn_kerr17@Ted_Underwood I subscribe to your view! Instead of being the opposite of each other, there is a synergy between “distant reading” and "close reading". But how, do you think, can the synergy actually function in literary studies to highlight its "speciality" as a branch of humanised studies?
@_lydiaay But I also agree that drawbacks do exist. For example, if women’s voices over-rely on quantitative computational algorithms, then the generated errors are “ruptures” for feminist literary scholars.
#DHEdinb What I find intriguing in this week's reading is that there may exist an parallel analogy or connection between feminism and DH as both of them are confronted with challenges:
a. digital versus traditional
b. feminist voice versus androcentrism
@_lydiaay Thanks Lydia! In my view, digital platforms tend to be more open and accessible than real-world activities. The computational analysis enables feminists who are considered sentimental and subjective under prejudice to break the bias and make their interpretations compelling.
Additionally, digital humanities and gender studies are interactive. First, digital technologies provide platforms to highlight feminist methodology and epistemology; second, women’s interpretation on digital platforms enrich the utilization and contextualization.
#DHEdinb What role does gender plays in the travelling exercise in English fiction? Many are convinced that men travel more and are more involved in adventurous activities without any doubt. However, Google Ngram Viewer gives you a different result...
To what extent does the increasing digital reading contribute to the decreased reading ability? You my find the answer in N. Katherine Hayles's article https://t.co/v45iGoDzvI.

Jaclyn’s @jaclyn_kerr interesting summary https://t.co/v9rausPW5m reflects a prevalent topic about video games! As an emerging research field in digitally driven culture, video games are influenced by humanistic culture while they also rejuvenate conventional humanism.
#DHEdinb@theHyperlab reflects in his article that digital humanists and digital projects are based on critical discourse and ideological context, in which they should not be merely labelled as tools but rather as guidance for more humanised studies and readings.
