One year ago today, prominent journalist and Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif was killed by an Israeli airstrike on a media tent in Gaza City.
He was 28 years old and had been receiving threats for reporting on Israel’s war crimes prior to his assassination.
Today marks the 78th anniversary of the Nakba (catastrophe), during which more than 750,000 Palestinians were expelled and over 400 villages were destroyed to establish the State of Israel.
A year and a half ago the world knew, as reported even by US media.
Israeli forces removed all medical workers from a hospital and left newborn babies to die of starvation. Alone. And then rot.
The journalist who took the photos was then assassinated.
Pope Francis used his last public address to call for a ceasefire in Gaza and his continued focus on pastoral outreach with the poor and marginalized broke with many papal boundaries. 🕊️
A reminder that it’s rape even if he’s your favourite athlete. It’s rape even if he’s a famous celebrity. It’s rape even if he’s talented. It’s rape even if you found him inspirational. Stop excusing the actions of abusive men just because you admire them.
