I myself am a "men". Most of my friends are also a "mens". I have no idea who African women are referring to when they say that "men" prefer women who wear wigs over their natural hair. I can use myself and my sizeable friend group across 9 countries on the continent as enough of a sample size to categorically state that African men overwhelmingly prefer their women's natural hair.

Yet everytime this conversation pops up, we hear about this mythical creature called a "men like women in wigs." On behalf of African men, allow me to say it again that if "men" prefer female wigs over female natural hair, then we must be women - that does not apply to us at all.

We grew up with you people. You are our sisters, cousins, schoolmates and friends. The first picture of the female form that we saw and fell in love with as your brothers, nephews and high school boyfriends was you in your natural state. I don't think you realise how powerful that is. The girl from the next classroom that was every African boy's first love was a girl appearing in her natural state. That is the default picture of love that stays with us for life! We did not wake up one morning at 17 and suddenly decided that female beauty = a woman wearing a Hollywood production on her head.

That is fake news!

We've always loved you as you are.

The real issue is that you are receiving commercial messaging and social engineering propaganda to convince you that your natural state is incomplete, so that you will spend money to "fix" what was never broken, and some white guy somewhere gets paid off that. We do not control any of the messaging you are receiving! We don't control any social media algorithms. We don't control your TV programming. We don't control Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+ etc. We don't make TV and movie casting decisions.

We don't own any of the supply chains and factories built around manufacturing your insecurity - the most we can do is retail these products that somebody else put in your mind, manufacturer in a Chinese factory, and shipped to your country. If we were the ones in control of any of these things, we would never push such products on you. Even drug dealers don't sell drugs to their own family members.

Anyway that's precisely the problem - we're the world's least powerful men and our weakness has built a superhighway for every Tom, Sandeep and Chung to dump toxic ideas and products on our women and leave us to deal with the fallout. It is precisely because we don't control Media, Politics, War, Industry or Logistics that we haven't built a physical and psychological wall around our women, unlike every other group of men on the planet.

Our weakness as a group is what has left our women's minds and bodies defenseless and open to exploitation from anyone and everyone - to the point where they literally look at their natural form in the mirror and think there is something they need to correct about it. They know that as a group, the only thing we offer to them is penis and they have learned to discount whatever we say, even when we tell them that they're beautiful as they are.

This is a problem that the African rebellion will naturally solve.

When African men take our rightful place in the world and begin exercising power as we should, nobody will need to tell African women that their beauty is not enhanced in any way by laying a dead Indian woman's hair above their own.

Power fixes these problems.

The value of a language is not reducible to short-term monetary utility or current global dominance. It rests primarily on culture, history, identity, intergenerational continuity, and soft power. Languages encode worldviews, family bonds, historical memory, a unique identity and a sense of belonging that no “practical” lingua franca fully replaces.

You speak English today precisely because the English did not abandon their language when Norman French was the language of power, law, the aristocracy, and high culture for centuries after 1066. English persisted among the majority, only absorbed some French vocabulary, and eventually reasserted itself as the language of the realm. The Jews didn’t have such useless mentality for more than a millennia, under multiple conquests and sackings by multiple empires, constantly being being at their mercy, and being stateless and a minority in many lands, where many persecute them; they still held on strong to their language and still exist today when many others went extinct . The same pattern holds for Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Nordic languages, and others: they modernized, adopted Western science and technology, and still protected their languages rather than treating them as disposable peasant relics. Those languages later generated enormous soft power (anime, K-pop, Bollywood, literature, cinema) that increased their practical and economic value.

The claim that Igbo (or Yoruba, etc.) is useless outside Nigeria confuses current market demand with inherent worth. Many successful diasporas (Indian, Chinese, Korean, Jewish) maintain heritage languages alongside English or other global ones. Research consistently shows that heritage-language maintenance strengthens ethnic identity, family cohesion, self-esteem, and psychological well-being; it does not hinder acquisition of dominant languages. Bilingualism itself confers cognitive advantages in executive function, mental flexibility, and even delayed onset of dementia symptoms. Children can, do and should learn both.

Treating only “globally recognized” languages as worthy of priority is itself a product of Westernization and postcolonial undervaluation, not pure pragmatism. If economic dominance alone justified cultural erasure, one could equally abandon Igbo (or Yoruba, Hausa, Ibibio, etc.) cuisine, names, art forms, historical narratives, and ethnic identity to become a fully generic “Black Englishman,” since those too are less “economically viable” in many Western and global contexts. That logic is self-erasing. Identity elements that are non-dominant today can generate future soft power, community resilience, and personal rootedness; they do not need to clear a short-term ROI threshold to deserve transmission. Optimistic Idealistic realism should be the way to view reality.

Prioritizing English and French is reasonable. Framing the heritage language as something one should deprioritize or treat as optional luxury is not, especially for a language of a culture with a population of ~35–40 million in Nigeria
and ~5–8 million in the diaspora. It reflects a defeatist acceptance that one’s own cultural inheritance is inferior rather than a sober assessment of what actually benefits children long-term.

An abandoned language = an abandoned culture.

A dead language = A dead culture.

The first way to destroy and/or absorb an ethnicity or culture is by destroying the language .

I called my daughter who is on Campus on the phone. We started speaking in Yoruba.
Someone standing by knew it was my daughter I was speaking with.
She smiled because she was impressed.
My daughter speaks English and French too but you see that Yoruba? It is the real deal. If I lose my language, I feel I have lost my identity.

This is personal to me. It does not matter to some. Just make it in life is the goal for them.
