I am an educator, instructional designer, and mother. I believe education (whether remote or in-person) should be designed to empower both educator and learner.
Already dreading a mountain of overdue assignments at the end of the term? ⛰️ Find out how @linzemitchell and her students co-designed a late-work policy that increases accountability, accommodates students, *and* boosts morale: https://t.co/L5iPdv6t6c
Collaborating with students to create class policies is not always easy, but is worth it. 🙂 This article was a joy to write for @edutopia . Thank you to @teacher2teacher for sharing it🙂
Including Ss in the creation of class policies can be empowering – especially when you start small and scaffold with care.

@mme_wagstaff Yep. We grade most assessments as a class. They get quick feedback and it saves time for me. Yes, I check to make sure students marked them correctly. 😉
@MmeCarbonneau I use prompts in TL and 1st lang for practice activities (depending on the topic) and we "work through" the prompts when they are in TL. For an assessment, TL only if it has been practiced repeatedly and on a VERY familiar topic.
It has been exciting to engage with fellow educators on this topic and share best practices on @edutopia. A sense of balanced accountability can help the mental health of everyone! 😃😃
The end of the term is nearing. Are you expecting a mountain of overdue assignments? ⛰️
This late-work policy from @linzemitchell can help: https://t.co/7k2wPUkCAH
@WLClassroom I tell students my goal is make them 'functional' when we are going over structures. It doesn't need to be perfect, just functional. This ironically releases the pressure and leads to more effective communication!
Another article for @edutopia about a SIMPLE late work policy that boosted morale and established boundaries for me and my students. To paraphrase one of my students "in this class...you see us as people...and we see you too". ☺️

@DiernaMHS Have kids make a movie poster/book cover that summarizes what they read. The give it a catchy title, add captivating images, and a caption. My students made it using Canva and my artists did one on paper.
@TeachMrReed @DrKerryane This helps the kids who are simply overwhelmed with missing work, but are engaged in the class/content. Is it perfect, no (nothing ever is). But, student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. (2/2)
@TeachMrReed @DrKerryane I accept late work (full credit) until the assessment on the content (about 2 weeks). After that, a student can achieve partial credit for missing by showing competency on said assessment. (1/2)
@MmeCarbonneau@doriecp That works too!😃 Teaching is an art and often, what we do in our instructional practice varies from year to year (and periods to periods)
@DiegoOjeda66 Honestly, mine is more of a mix of the two. In fact, I have my students help design what they should be able to do in the assessment; but it would be hard to fully explain that process in a tweet.
