The Reality of our work in the Last 48 Hours

Oh, what a whirlwind it’s been. In just the last 48 hours, my phone hasn’t stopped ringing , calls from one end of the country to the other.
Each one, a cry for help. Each one, a life that matters.

First came Mr S, a gentle soul who had been living in a car with his homeless owner. The services reached out asking if we could help him and five other Pom dogs. Of course, we said yes.

With Mr S, something didn’t feel right. His breathing was laboured, and our instincts told us to act fast. Yesterday, he was rushed to the vet and placed in an oxygen tank for three hours, receiving urgent medical care. The vets believe it’s an upper respiratory infection.

He’s now safely back with us and being closely monitored. The emergency care came to £368.20 every penny worth it to see him breathing easier today.

Then came another call , this time from the London Ambulance Service. A woman was experiencing a mental health crisis and needed to go to hospital but was terrified to leave her dog behind.
We dispatched transport immediately. Paramedics were waiting, and Miss L was gently handed over to us. She’s now safe in our foster care, surrounded by calm and kindness.

And finally… one of the most heartbreaking animal welfare cases we’ve ever faced. We can’t share details — it’s too raw, too distressing and a police case , but what we can say is that this little one is broken in every way imaginable.
We’re doing everything we can to rebuild her trust, her security, and her spirit. She’s safe now. She’s loved.

This is what our work really looks like. It’s exhausting. It’s emotional. It’s relentless.
But we’ll never stop ,because they need us. Every single one of them.

URGENT | This dog was found yesterday afternoon (26/10/25) next to the central reservation on the A40 dual carriageway near #Whitchurch #SymondsYat.
Lucky for him, a kind couple stopped and quickly got him to safety, taking him to an out of hours Vets in Newport, unfortunately it is believed that he had been hit by a vehicle.

Halloween artificial cobweb material:
It may be a bit of fake fun for you, but it's a very real and terrifying death for them.
And it's not only birds.
I've had my first call of the season of a hedgehog trapped in this horrific fake 'cobweb', made especially for gullible halloweeners to spread over their greenery, trapping all unsuspecting birds, insects and mammals, including hedgehogs.
The fine synthetic fibers are difficult for animals to see and can quickly wrap around their legs, spines, and neck, leading to severe injuries.
When a hedgehog struggles to free herself the web tightens, cutting off circulation and causing deep wounds. These constriction injuries often lead to permanent damage or death.
Unfortunately the call was from Manchester, so all I could do was talk them through getting the poor creature to a rescue.
Clearly she had been trapped there for at least one night, and her struggles had pulled the strong nylon strands so tightly that one of her toes had been amputated.
Can you imagine the pain and the sheer terror?
And then seeing dawn approach, while hanging there, tightly bound and helpless.
Aside from being stressed, dehydrated, starving and exhausted to the point of near death, she also had horrific bite/peck wounds to her face, where she had been held there, helpless, unable to curl and defend herself, while a predator tried to eat her alive.
If you have used this deadly cruel trap to 'decorate' your garden, please take it down now.
Please don't be conned by the greedy makers and sellers of this rubbish into hurting defenceless animals.

[Hedgehog Cabin @HedgehogCabin]

All over the country a lot of healthy full grown hedgehogs are hibernating early this year.
There could be all sorts of reasons why, but it causes two problems that we can help alleviate.
1. It means they will rise from hibernation earlier, because they will run out of fat to burn. So please keep a little dry cat food and clean ice-free water out all throughout winter. You'll be a life saver.
2. Hedgehogs weave their hibernacula mostly out of leaves, and there just aren't enough around yet - they are still on the trees. So the hedgehogs will be forced to make nests out of what's always around - plastic, food wrappers, bags..anything they can forage.
As the true winter weather sets in, during late December /early January, the nests that they have made now may not insulate them sufficiently, forcing them up and out on the coldest nights.
So please leave out hay, kept dry inside a large flower pot or bucket laid on its side. Just meadow hay, which can be bought very cheaply from most supermarkets and pets stores, but could save a life.
