Kenya and France hosted the #AfricaForward2026 High-Level Breakfast Meeting on the margins of the 39th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, where African leaders were briefed on the objectives of the Africa Forward Summit, co-hosted by Kenya and France in Nairobi from 11th to 13th May 2026.
The Summit, themed “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnership for Innovation and Growth,” provides a timely platform to renew Africa–Europe cooperation and advance solutions on green industrialization, energy transition, health, AI, agriculture, and financial reform.
We welcomed contributions and proposals from participants, underscoring our commitment to an inclusive and mutually beneficial Summit for all African countries.
Kenya reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening Africa’s global partnerships for innovation, growth, and sustainable development, and looks forward to strong continental participation to advance Africa’s development and global engagement. ➡️ En mai se tiendra le Sommet Africa Forward au Kenya que la France co-organise : aux côtés de S.E le Premier ministre et Ministre des Affaires étrangères et de la Diaspora kenyan Monsieur @MusaliaMudavadi, j’ai eu le plaisir de présenter ses grands enjeux aujourd’hui auprès des ambassadeurs du continent africain.

🌍 Seront inscrits à l’agenda la réforme de l’architecture financière internationale, les enjeux économiques dans le domaine de l’environnement, des nouvelles technologies, de la santé ou encore du sport, des jeunesses et de la culture.

🤝🏽 Les 11 et 12 mai à Nairobi seront le moment d’agir concrètement ensemble pour construire des ponts entre nos pays.

At the invitation of French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, H.E. @jnbarrot, in Paris, I held focused bilateral talks aimed at accelerating and deepening the Kenya–France partnership. Our engagement was driven by shared values, mutual respect, and a clear commitment to advance peace, development, and effective multilateral action.

We directly addressed evolving regional and global security dynamics against the backdrop of shifting socio-economic and geopolitical realities. Kenya and France reaffirmed the centrality of the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law as essential tools for safeguarding regional stability and strengthening global peace and security efforts.

The discussions also advanced preparations for the upcoming Africa–France Summit, scheduled to take place in Kenya from 11th to 12th May 2026. This milestone gathering will see Kenya make history as the first non-Francophone African nation to host the summit, positioning the country at the centre of Africa–Europe strategic engagement.

Kenya welcomes the strong political momentum shaping a more inclusive and forward-looking Africa–France relationship, focused on delivering concrete, bankable, and measurable outcomes. Priority areas include reform of the international financial architecture, energy transition, green industrialisation, digital innovation, sustainable agriculture, and resilient health-care systems.

🌍 10 years ago, the world adopted the Paris Agreement, which provides a fair & just framework to reduce carbon emissions and promote green transition.

Since then, France 🇨🇵 has reduced its carbon emissions and pushed forward major breakthroughs such as forest and high-seas biodiversity. Equally, Kenya 🇰🇪 has raised its ambition in carbon cutting and amplified Africa's voice to tackle climate change globally.

🤲🏾 Together, French and Kenyan actors work for a greener planet. For 20 years, we have partnered through AFD with the Green Belt Movement to protect the Aberdares and Mau Forests. Recently, we expanded our efforts to the Kakamega Forest, combining cutting-edge research while engaging the youth & the local communities to protect the last rainforest in Kenya🌳. This new project involves leading research institutes and the Wangari Maathai Foundation, as a tribute to her fight for a better future 💪🏾.
