Trump is going after the offshore fortunes the Islamic Republic’s elites have amassed while Iranians endure economic collapse.

That is what Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is targeting when he says, “They can’t go see their plastic surgeon in London, their girlfriend in Paris, and their money in Geneva.”

It exposes the regime’s religious and political hypocrisy. Ordinary Iranians are told to resist the West, sacrifice and endure back-breaking hardship and poverty, while regime elites enjoy immense wealth, lavish Western lifestyles and the very sinful indulgences they condemn, with fortunes sheltered in foreign banks and property.

Bessent says financial isolation and restrictions on shipping and travel are making that privileged access harder to maintain. The people who demand endless sacrifice from Iranians are finding their own escape routes under pressure.

Investigations have traced foreign properties, shell companies and offshore holdings linked to regime-connected figures and their intermediaries. Treasury says it is tracking those assets and the networks used to move money abroad.

Iran’s wealth should fund hospitals, infrastructure, wages and opportunities for its people. Instead, the Islamic Republic directs resources toward repression, terrorist proxies and networks that enrich its connected elite.

Iranians are told there is no money for their needs while officials and their families protect fortunes overseas. The regime’s hostility toward the West has never stopped its beneficiaries from enjoying what the West offers.

For ordinary Iranians, the system means deprivation. For those connected to power, it has become an operation for extracting national wealth and securing a comfortable life abroad.

We mourn the people murdered in their homes, the young lives stolen at a music festival, and those dragged into captivity. Every one of them had a life that mattered, people who loved them, and a future they should have been allowed to live.

As Iranians, we recognize the murderous ideology behind that day. We have suffered its brutality ourselves. Hamas’s patron, the terrorist Islamic Regime occupying Iran, turned its guns on our people in January. When we look at October 7, we see the same contempt for human life that left our own families grieving.

That is why your grief feels so close to us. We mourn the victims of October 7 as we mourn our own massacred on January 8 and 9.

The regime’s hatred of Jews does not speak for us. Let our solidarity speak for us instead.

Your murdered loved ones have a place in our memory, too. We will carry their memory alongside our own.
