It's just engrained in the culture unfortunately. I personally have no beef, haven't been there. But I've had many interactions with Russians where we consciously avoid the subject. If friendly enough, they'll openly make Jewish jokes because they know I know. The biggest threat imo is open antisemitism from people who don't know anything about Jews (directy or indirectly) or Jewish culture and parrot tropes. Dangerous shit. That road is well worn.
It's a gross generalisation. I know heaps of well travelled Americans. BUT most aren't and when they open their mouth it shows. True for many people from other countries too but I'm tuned into recognise what I know. I quietly judge it but I know that's my own bias. I'm not better I just think I am sometimes. Then I realise I'm probably the same ignorant cunt to someone else. We're human afterall.
