❄️ Winter weather is coming this weekend. Take time now to prepare, act, and stay safe.
📝 Review and update your household emergency plan. Make sure everyone knows how to contact each other. Be ready to stay home when authorities say travel is unsafe. Include pets and service animals. Winterize your home and if you have one, your car. Check heat, windows, tires, fluids, and antifreeze. Learn more at https://t.co/QxnNdatgw5
🎒 Build your winter Go Bag and supply kit. Include blankets, warm clothes, food, water, medications, first aid, flashlights, batteries, chargers, and a radio. Keep enough supplies for at least 7 days. Store extra water. Be prepared for potential power disruptions. Learn how at https://t.co/W6dGXNqeeX.
🔥 Use heat safely. Keep space heaters 3 feet from anything flammable. Plug directly into outlets, not extension cords. Never use stoves and ovens for heat. Don’t use grills or generators indoors. Do not use candles during outages. Check smoke and CO alarms and replace batteries.
📲 Stay informed. Sign up for Notify NYC by texting NotifyNYC to 692-692. Follow weather alerts and city advisories. Call 311 for non emergency assistance.
🤝 Check on neighbors, especially older adults, people with disabilities, and those living alone. If someone may be homeless or in danger, call 311 so outreach teams can help. Call 911 for life safety issues.
🚗 Travel only if necessary. Use mass transit if possible but expect delays. If driving, slow down, leave extra space, keep your gas tank at least half full. Have ways to get help if you get stranded, including a cell phone and charged batteries.
🧣If you must travel, dress in layers. Cover exposed skin. Bring pets indoors. Watch for black ice. Know signs of frostbite and hypothermia. Call 911 if symptoms appear.
Prepared New Yorkers stay safer. Start now. Stay ready. https://t.co/3t3I1pbAno for more winter weather tips.
THIS is the real rent crisis in NYC.
Luxury buildings keep going up.
Working people keep getting pushed out.
This didn’t happen by accident.
It happened by approval.
“The middle class isn’t shrinking — it’s being evicted.”
Teachers. Transit workers. Nurses. City workers.
People who keep New York running can’t afford to live here anymore.
Everyone keeps talking about homeowners.
But renters are the ones being forced out of the city—
Not because they’re lazy.
Not because they didn’t work hard enough.
But because the system was redesigned without them in mind.
If you’ve felt this pressure…
If your rent jumped overnight…
If your neighborhood doesn’t look like it used to…
You’re not crazy. You’re being priced out.

Thank you @RepGregoryMeeks. President Trump’s decision to freeze federal funding is a reckless and harmful overreach that endangers critical programs and infrastructure in our city and across the nation. From Medicaid to transportation funding for the MTA, New York City as a 🧵
