The drought was very evident on my walks this week to find plants to add to my perpetual journal - some flowering heather on a very dry heath, and Common Toadflax and Traveller's Joy flowering in more shaded locations. #wildflowerhour

With everything so dry and scorched at the moment I struggled to find something new for my perpetual journal this week, but found a few remaining flowers on a clump of Meadow Vetchling and there's always plenty of Persicaria sp. in the field margins #wildflowerhour

I haven't been far from home this week to find much for my perpetual journal, but there is always something to be found - Great Willowherb and Yarrow along the roadsides (even did a little dissection!). #wildflowerhour

I didn't get out much last week due to the heatwave but found a Sun Spurge on a local walk that I added to my perpetual journal. Such fascinating plants - I really must find time to study them in more detail.

I'm a big fan of Hedge Woundwort. I don't mind the smell (too much) and just love those flowers! A common plant but it always makes me smile. This one is growing in a field entrance near our house #DeadnettleFamily #wildflowerhour

A little trip to RSPB Bempton Cliffs in Yorkshire provided me with some additions to my perpetual journal last week - Meadow Crane's-bill and the seed capsules of Red Campion (for which I attempted dip pen and ink) and back home I found Black-bindweed. #wildflowerhour

A couple of common plants added to my perpetual journal from close to home this week - Creeping Thistle and Broad-leaved Dock - not the most glamorous species, but look closely at docks and those tepals are really quite attractive #wildflowerhour

I only had time to add a couple of small things from my local walks to my perpetual journal over the last couple of weeks - lots of Field Bindweed on the road verges along with quite a bit of Dwarf Mallow.

I love Bird's-foot Trefoil - a little burst of sunshine, particularly when it has those shades of orange or red as well as the yellow. #wildflowerhour
