Thankful for all the stories that kept me company this year: Audition, Remarkably Bright Creatures, Lincoln in the Bardo, I Think We've Been Here Before, Heaven & Earth Grocery Store. ๐ What books would you invite to Thanksgiving for good company?
Writers, what's one tiny detail you're proud of in your current project? Something small, like a line of dialogue or a quiet moment you finally got right? For me, I made an oblique reference to a character reading Slaughterhouse Five and one of my readers picked up on it. So sly.
I'm curious (my favorite start to a conversation, btw), what book made you realize you wanted to write? For me, I was 11 or so when I read Lois Duncan's Stranger With My Face. The idea I could craft a new reality for someone else opened a new door in my head.
I've been on a reading streak of novels that blend quiet emotional stakes with big internal shifts: the kind where nothing EXPLODES, but everything changes. What have you read lately that does that for you?
I love it when writers trust their reader with quiet moments and don't spell out every experience the character is having. The Audition did that for me. What books made it clear to you the author trusted the reader to keep up with them?
This made me laugh: I have no political interest in their protest, but Portland seems to take the funniest way to address any problem. Getting my leg warmers out. ๐คฃ
@CollinRugg Wales' over the top response aside, it was a pretty lame question. Don't waste time asking questions that are easily look-up-able. Do your homework @collinrugg and bring your audience some insight.
Todayโs small victory: hitting โsend.โ Itโs only taken me 40 years of dreaming to find the courage to hit that button! Hereโs hoping the next submission wonโt take that long. ๐ค

@lawdeanpaul @XJournaLK @NIH Examine what is being paid for in that indirect cost: overwhelming bureaucracy. The researchers are then being charged for office space and internet connection on top of the indirect charges. Kill the administrative bloat at universities.
@VORTEXJeff Itโs appalling that the schools are stealing all this money from the researchers. Imagine goes much more science could be done if 85% was actually going to science.
Hank You, @goclio for hosting a terrific and rich set of education, networking, and cultural opportunities. The thoughtfulness in the content, exhibitors, insights, and even the style of #ClioCon in Nashville was top of the charts. Looking forward to Austin in โ24.
@NIAASports @HomeTownTix Your app is really buggy. Every time I went to see any rankings, a black screen took over the phone. Finally gave up and deleted it. 0 stars
