@KNRLeslie I love this idea! I no longer teach science, but having students ask about our guiding question for reading could help establish background knowledge.
@thereadingzone The school I teach in bought surgical grade air purifiers for each classroom, masks are mandated and worn by everyone in the building since Nov. 2020 we have been in person with NO cases of in school transmission of COVID. It is possible with proper mitigation.
@alicekeeler I am excited to try this with my 3rd graders. I think it will remove the anxiety over spelling words correctly and help them get ideas on the paper.
I'm not a fan of teaching a class where half the students video conference in and half the students are in person. Don't get me wrong. It works but it doesn't work well. It's the instructional version of a spork.
@Catlin_Tucker This is how I usually do my “stations”. It gives the students and me more flexibility. If I keep one group with me a bit longer or move through another group more quickly, it doesn’t disturb the pace of the rest of the class.
@bibliojessi I love Wuthering Heights..and no, Stephanie Meyer is no Emily Bronte. They aren’t even in the same league. I enjoyed the Twilight series, but it is teenage fluff. Sorry. Not serious literature.
I miss being called Mrs. Morris...hearing it first thing in the morning full of excitement to start the day, hearing it following a thank you filled with gratitude for my full attention for a few moments, hearing it as a body flies out the door for the day. Those moments...
I am looking for a platform that encourages student collaboration, but can be used asynchronously...what have you found beyond shared documents that gets students working together?
@alicekeeler In our district we have a significant portion of the students withou access to internet. However, I can contact them all by phone. In addition to hard copies of materials I will be placing online, I plan to host small group lesson via the phone. Not ideal, but than packets.
@KNRLeslie @kpbsd@amsuad@SciSamurai Thank you Kim! I am feeling some trepidation about starting online instruction. This is just what I needed to hear.
@Catlin_Tucker I just left a district where personalized learning was prioritized to a district where tracking has been the practice for years. I feel like tracking creates a system where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
@bibliojessi Yes. It does pass, but it is a grieving process. Take it on day at a time and focus on you. Your 20s are a time of self discovery and a good dose of selfishness.
