Moms and @ecomadres_ are at @sciencedems’ event, “The Things We’ll Never Know: A Science Fair of Canceled Grants” to learn from scientists about what we stand to lose when science is cast aside. #StandUpForScience
TODAY: @RepDonBeyer made his way down to our event The Things We'll Never Know: A Science Fair of Canceled Grants--where we learned, straight from the researchers who have had their grants canceled by the Trump administration, what we stand to lose when science is politicized.
Peter Goldsmith, Director of the @tropicalsoylab, and Julie Cidell from @UIUCGeogGIS joined @sciencedems on the Hill today for the “Things We’ll Never Know” science fair featuring federally-funded projects that have been canceled.

I spoke at the Things We’ll Never Know: A Science Fair of Canceled Grants to highlight the significant science research grants canceled by the Trump Administration. Research, innovation, breakthrough science make this country great and make us leaders in the world. Cutting science hurts our country.
Thank you to all the scientists who came out to show their critical research. I’ll continue to fight for science in Congress. 🔬🧬
Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife.
While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE.
This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.
I will NEVER forget. I remember when this happened, and though the term LGBTQ wasn’t yet mainstream, I remember feeling a pain in my soul that I don’t even know if I understood.
I just saw a young man with his whole life ahead of him that was taken away. I saw kindness, compassion, courage and bravery. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around the kind of ugliness, cruelty and hate he endured. I asked myself what was going through his mind as he was chained to that fence waiting for the comfort of death to take away the pain inflicted on him by those who could not accept that he existed and breathed the same air they did.
Was he wondering if someone, anyone, would come to save him. I see people going out of their way to post ignorant rhetoric, to demonize and dehumanize an entire community, and for what? What the fuck do they have to do with you and your life? It takes a helluva lot more courage to stand in a truth many don’t, or won’t, acknowledge, accept or want to erase. We don’t exist in this world for the acceptance and comfort of others, but to be who we are.
At the bare minimum, tolerance. Safety and inclusion. But if you can’t bring yourself to recognize another human being for being human, then there’s something the fuck wrong with you. Being angry about Pride displays when you can just walk the fuck past them. Mad about Pride parades when you probably can’t tell me the last time you went downtown.
You can literally just not go that day. The unnecessary punching down and proselytizing about things nobody asked you for. So a Pride display is shoving things down YOUR throat, but your Bible quotes and hate filled rhetoric aren’t to others? Shoving your perceived spiritual superiority down the esophagus of those who didn’t ask you to.
I will take all the Matthews in exchange for all the MAGAs. I would gladly trade his kindness and compassion, for all of their bigotry and hate. I sometimes wonder what broke in you, but maybe you were never really whole to begin with and that’s the problem.
Rest in peace, Matthew🙏🏾💔❤️

NEW: Here's a photo posted in 2018 apparently of Joe Kent, Trump's pick to head the National Counterterrorism Center, from the Instagram feed of a family member, showing he had the word "PANZER" tattooed on his arm. Why? I asked him, the NCTC, and the ODNI, and, so far, no reply.
My friend Henry (who was also my student) and I decided to create some joy in –20°C weather in the Yukon and share it with you all. He is in grade 5 now. We are sending joy, hope, and positivity to everyone.
