The Jammu & Kashmir People's Conference (JKPC) today staged a peaceful protest against the National Conference (NC), accusing it of pursuing policies that undermine the powers of elected MLAs.
JKPC alleged that the National Conference, instead of protecting the authority and dignity of elected representatives, is facilitating attempts to weaken the institution of the legislature. The party said the same political leadership failed to prevent the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A and the loss of Jammu & Kashmir's statehood, and is now allowing the powers of MLAs to be eroded.
The party stated that today's protest is only the beginning of a wider movement. Similar protests will be held across every district of Jammu & Kashmir in the coming days. JKPC warned that if the National Conference does not change its approach, the movement will continue to grow, adding that the campaign it has launched will not stop until the concerns of the people are addressed.

In November 2025, Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah along with Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary laid the foundation stone for the 5 km widening and four laning of Boulevard Road from Nehru Park to Kral Sangri. However, even in June 2026, not a single day of work has started on the ground. Daily office goers and business people who leave home early in the morning and return tired in the evening remain stuck in traffic on this same stretch. By the time they reach home, they are completely exhausted. Tourists also come to the Boulevard and Dal Lake area to relax and enjoy Kashmir’s beauty, but instead of returning refreshed, they leave tired and frustrated. When they go back to their homes outside Kashmir, they carry a negative narrative about the state. This is damaging Kashmir’s tourism and image from every side. You are in power with a big mandate. The people want solutions and clarification why has the work not started yet? If there were difficulties, why lay the foundation stone in the first place?
Accountability is needed.

In Kashmir, corruption doesn’t hide in darkness anymore it glows comfortably where the street lights were supposed to be Rs. 6.12 crore vanished into thin air like Kashmir’s winter sun, promised 2,685 solar street lights for Kupwara’s borders, but not a single bulb dared to glow. ACB’s star-studded squad found nothing but empty promises & phantom tenders ACB’s own report called it a “conspiracy to siphon off public funds.”. Two years, zero FIRs, zero action. Meanwhile, our ‘electric’ division’s denial shines brighter than those nonexistent lights. Public funds playing hide & seek? Nah, just another day in paradise.
Rs. 6.12 CRORE of public money released in March 2023 — at year-end — for 2,685 solar street lights across Kupwara’s border Panchayats. Not a single unit was installed - Not one.
ACB J&K sent TWO teams — DSP-rank officers, Executive Magistrates, engineering experts — for ground inspection on 3rd & 4th April 2023.
Their own written report on record said:
❌ No lights installed
❌ No procurement made
❌ No Bill of Quantities diligence
❌ No time limit in tenders
And then the ACB called it — in their OWN words — “a conspiracy to siphon off public funds.”
They recommended cancellation of tenders, full recovery and criminal action against culprits & erring officers.
That was 2 years ago.
Result? Zero FIR, Zero recovery, Zero arrests & Zero accountability.
The Electric Division Kupwara issued a denial. The ACB went silent. Rs. 6.12 crore of PRI grant money — meant for the people of a border district — sits in private hands.
This will NOT be buried.

An absolute honour to meet @MayorofLondon Mr. Sadiq Khan and learn from his perspective on leadership, resilience and the responsibility of running a world-class city.
Watching my father, @imrankehwah sb, serve as Deputy Mayor of Srinagar with quiet dedication, long before most even recognised the office, has taught me that real leadership is not noise but vision sustained under pressure.
That conversation has reignited a belief within me: Srinagar too can rise. Srinagar too can shine.
Because London is not merely a city, it is a statement.
A global powerhouse built on institutions, continuity, discipline and relentless execution.
Respect to Hon’ble Mayor (@SadiqKhan) for stewarding one of the world’s greatest capitals with clarity, resilience and political vision.
From Srinagar to London: the aspiration remains the same: build cities that make their people proud.
